What makes a soap a soap and a shampoo a shampoo?

Silver lining - soap recipes intended for hair are often very nice hand and/or body soaps. So maybe try the recipe and just don't use it on your hair.

What makes a soap a soap and a shampoo a shampoo?

A lot of people on Etsy, etc are selling soap as shampoo. Words like sodium cocoate, sodium olivate mean soap. Olive oil + lye = sodium olivate. Sodium palmate = palm oil + lye. Etc. Shampoo bars have been on my list for a while but I haven't gotten around to them. Might be worth while to try...

Shampoo bars - BTMS 50 vs e-wax? and is Panthenol really that important?

Has anybody made a with and without? Thoughts? Based on this SCM recipe: CONDITIONING SHAMPOO BAR SUITABLE FOR DRY HAIR HEATED PHASE 30% SCI (with stearic acid) – 22% SLSa or other powdered surfactant 10% SMC or SMO taurate or other gentle surfactant 15% cocamidopropyl betaine 3% cetyl...

For Masterbatchers of oils - Question

While cmzaha is probably right, that is too much mathing for me. I would weigh the jug and put that total in soap calc as lard. That's a good middle-of-the-pack oil in terms of SAP value. Then I'd build a recipe to make up the rest of the amount needed. 7% superfat, just to cover the bases. Or...

My first soap worth looking at.

LOVE the blue. I would buy that. Brown and white is really lovely as well.

Something went Wrong - See the pics !

I can't tell if it was too thick and so went into the mold unevenly, or if it was too soft when you un molded and you mushed it as you were unmolding?

    Learned so much already

IMO, a dry environment is more important than the temperature. My soap is fine long term (years) in the attic - it gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter. On the other hand, soap in the basement (cool, damp) gets DOS pretty bad.

    Learned so much already

Welcome to the forum! Glad you are enjoying it! When I make honey soap, I put the honey in my oils, then I stick blend the pot of oils as I pour in the lye water, to keep the honey from separating out.

Looking for soap supplies in Germany.

Another one to check out is Lebermuth. They are mostly a bulk supplier - they sell in 1 lb bottles. I've liked everything I've gotten from them and the prices are good.

    Economical and eco friendly packaging

@TheGecko - gonna have to disagree with you. We have to start somewhere, right? I would love love love to get back to the re-usable glass bottles, where you turn them in and get a deposit back.

What happens if we use soap without curing ?

It will explode! :) j/j It will make your skin very dry and irritated. Try it on your hands - PLEASE PLEASE don't try it on your face or any delicate parts.

Trying to achieve red in soap

I really like Wilton icing color. Look for the one that contains Red #40. Was it peppermint essential oil? Or peppermint fragrance oil? Most peppermint FOs seem to have vanillin in them.

OMG, Have you seen the prices for Fragrance oils at BB?

Is BB decreasing their bulk items to make room for kits? Otherwise, how do the kits make them less of a source for business soapers? EOs have become so popular, and you can't just create a lavender farm (for example) out of thin air. Supply and demand. (sigh). I just can't stomach using any EOs...

Looking for soap supplies in Germany.

A lot of posters will post deals, etc in the Shopping Recommendations section as soon as we know - via email, Facebook or whatever. Honestly, though, the last few years Black Friday's haven't been that good. Keep an eye on Brambleberry for a sale on gift certificates, though.

Why some oils make many pcs of soap compared to others ?

This doesn't make any sense. There's an operator error someplace!

Sorry, as far as I know, we (posters) cannot change thread titles! Which is why I suggested a new thread with a new title.

    Economical and eco friendly packaging

Re: lotion bars - are their any containers in your area that get frequently thrown away? Baby food jars used to be really easy to get, but now most people have switched to pouches. But maybe there's something like that in your area? If not, then try to thing of something that is dishwasher safe...
