Need Honey & Goat Milk Crash Course!

You may want to buy some "regular" (meaning not special) goat milk from the grocery store and make a batch to try it out. What EOs does she want you to use?

Need Honey & Goat Milk Crash Course!

I personally do not do the frozen milk, b/c the one time I tried it I had bits of undissolved lye. Lots of people do it successfully, I just don't have the patience for the 15 minutes of adding lye. Some people like to put a pitcher of cold milk in an ice bath and add the lye to the cold but...

Need Honey & Goat Milk Crash Course!

I am fond of the milk-in-oil method. Take the amount of water your recipe requires. Say 20 oz. Dissolve your lye in 10 oz water. Let the lye water cool to room temp. Heat your oils to 100-125. This depends on what oils you are using. For example, palm has a higher melt temp than lard. Or if you...

    Confessions of a soapmaker

You read the ingredients on the back of the lotion bottle and judge...harshly. (Seriously, Bath and Body Shop lotion is garbage).

    Christmas Soaps etc?

I like to give a gift baggie at work, I have about 30 co-workers. So I try to give at least half "good" (pretty) and half "bad" (ugly or the scent morphed or faded, etc). I actually have made soap in over a year (things kept getting in the way) so last year I was REALLY scraping the bottom of...

    Christmas Soaps etc?

Recipe for Batch #5 because I have to make soap!!

I personally would drop the coconut down to 20% or less. You could make up the difference in sunflower or olive. But I see no real problem with making it as is. It will thicken up fast, so maybe don't plan on elaborate swirls!

    Christmas Soaps etc?

I really struggle with swirls. BUT I have a lot of clear M&P. So I've decided no swirls...I'm going to pour at emulsion for a nice, flat, smooth top, then I'm going to mix micas with M&P and do a fun drizzle. I'm going to do a mint chocolate soap and drizzle the top with pale green mica and with...

EO to use with honey and oatmeal soap

EO prices have just skyrocketed in the last 20 years.

    Weird soap

Could be a mixing issue? Really make sure you are getting top, middle, bottom, the "corners" etc. I think you might be used to the way your smaller batch looks/feels/behaves and not used to the way the larger batch looks/feels/behaves.

    Counteracting Coconut Oil Dry Skin

I haven't done a comparison of this recipe with sunflower vs olive. I have replaced the olive oil in my standard lard recipe with half sunflower and half rice bran, or sometimes 10% of each. I read somewhere that sunflower and olive have a synergistic reaction in soap and produce more bubbles...

    Counteracting Coconut Oil Dry Skin

I really like this recipe: Castor 5 Coconut 20 Shea butter 50 Sunflower 25 2% superfat. It hardens up pretty fast so no super fancy swirls. And I think it needs a good 3 months of cure. But I really like it!

Shea butter and cocoa butter suppliers

What kinds of quantities are you looking for? If you are buying large quantities, Soaper's Choice is a good way to go. But if you just want a little bit to try: 1) Healthfood stores - they often carry small quantities of things like shea butter, cocoa butter and beeswax. 2) Local soap and candle...

Miniature and not so miniature items I made (polymer clay and resin)

Those are so neat! The little croissants look delicious! Looking at the last pic with the little toast slices - top left, what's on that one? Is that banana slices or boiled egg slices or something else? Bottom left - what is the pink and white on the toast?

EO to use with honey and oatmeal soap

Honey soap is pretty awesome as is. You may want to check out hot process and use a spice FO like clove or cinnamon.

First timer using Lye did I do it right?

Where did you get this recipe? To be honest...I think it's a bad one. Did you run the recipe through a lye calculator? I did and here's what I got. Did you leave out an oil? If not, then you used way too much lye and your soap is unsafe. I have never used Sea Moss gel...I googled it and...
