I would like to learn to make candles, appreciate any direction

The main issue with glassware is, unless it's designed for candles, they have a tendency to exhibit thermal shock. Basically the high temp of the lit wick and repeated hot/cold fluctuations can cause glass jars to crack. Part of why repeated testing is needed; in my experience lots of 'off the...

I would like to learn to make candles, appreciate any direction

My input would be candle making can be tricky to get right and to get consistent results, esp with soy. There isn't a short cut to testing, testing, testing and it can eat up money testing wicks and fragrances. As long as you are comfortable with the additional costs it can get great fun but...

If they are selling they should have an MSDS - care to share who it is...?

Deionised or Distilled? Ordering my supplies for my 1st attempt

Castor is a tricky one as its pretty much only available online in the uk (there are some retailers of it but I couldn't find any near me). Not sure where you are buying from but most of the usual soap suppliers sell castor Soap Kitchen, Naissance or even Ebay or Amazon.

    2 ounce "mini mason"

Forget recommendations they are only a starting point, wicks burn differently with different fragrances and different loads. If the one they recommend for that wax and jar burns like that you need to go down a size at least. TBH I found the smaller I went the harder it was to wick as the wax...

Hobbycraft sell candle making kits- if she has never done it before you can spend a fortune on getting set up so I would try a kit first. Think they do a Kirstie Allsop one..

    Economical and eco friendly packaging

We banned single use carrier bags in England a couple of years ago and if you want a recyclable carrier it's now 5 or 10p. Usage rates have dropped to between 90-95%. We need more stores and manufacturers to stop using plastic, styrofoam, deli bags - they can do it but until legislation forces...

    Fragrance usage question

Yep know you dont have safety assessments in the US and imo that's even more reason to follow IFRA guides as there is no regulatory check that what is sold doesn't contain harmful quantities. The max usage is based on so many factors inc allergens and sensitisers so if it's for personal use...

    Fragrance usage question

I agree, IFRA sets limits for a reason and we shouldn't encourage people to go against it - and for those of us stuck with cosmetic assessments in order to sell, using above the IFRA standard is simply not permitted.

CPSR (UK) and additives... newbie very confused

Ok - basically you have a base recipe, in this instance your uncoloured unfragranced soap. Each variation can be a different colour and/or fragrance. So Var 1 Lavender FO and purple mica Var 2 Apple and cinnamon FO and Green and pink mica You have to specify a colour by its CI number and send...
