    February SMF Challenge- Soap dough

I made my first batch of soap dough about a week ago. It was the sorcery soap one, and the texture was pretty good. I tried making flowers in a cane, but they ended up looking weird. I finally made some simple daisies. They're not bad, but nothing to write home about.

    Preferred Chelating Agents

I just finished making soap with varying amounts of citric acid. I used 0, 1, 2 and 3% citric acid, and added extra lye to compensate as per blog posting by classic bells about citric acid. I was hoping that the 3% citric acid would be outrageous, and I'd have weird crystals, or blobby soap, or...

    Soothing moisturizing bar

I agree that you should try lard. You can buy it at almost any grocery store. The most moisturizing soaps for me have no coconut oil, 50% lard, high superfat and have milk.

    January Entry Thread

Here is my soap! It's called Pink Staccato. I used the technique shown in the video. I have 3 colors of soap, a dark pink, a light pink with glitter, and uncolored. I split my batter into 3 batches, added the different colors, and then just poured the light pink and dark pink in the middle while...

January SMF Challenge -Hidden Heart Swirl

My attempt #2 was still kind of blobby. I'm doing citric acid tests in small molds (4" log), so did attempt #3 as my citric acid test and it turned out way better. So I didn't cut the log at all vertically, just did one cut horizontally, but having the extra area was really good to make a heart...

January SMF Challenge -Hidden Heart Swirl

I'll post a fail tonight! :) My first attempt was very blobby, the "heart" section was too large. I made a second attempt, and made smaller blobs, so had 2 "hearts" in each soap. I'm thinking that might be my entry, but it's not very impressive.

Feedback on solid conditioner bar recipe

Hi! I'd like to make a solid conditioner bar. I bought 3 ingredients from BB for this: Btms- 50 DL-Panthenol Cetearyl Alcohol Plus I have various oils and butters for soapmaking. I have this as my first trial recipe. Do you have any feedback about the percentages? Anything I should add? 64%...

Body Butter Or Lotion With These Ingredients?

You should make a solid lotion bar. You can use beeswax for that. Add coconut oil, some butter, like cocoa butter, or avocado butter, and I add tallow to mine too. I know there's an eww factor to tallow but it works great, especially now that it's winter.

    soap feels drying

You should make a small batch with much lower cleansing. You could go for 0, just for reference. I have multiple bars this way, with no coconut or PKO. You'll never know until you try. I definitely prefer an under range cleansing number for myself, like 5, but I feel weird selling soap like...

    Using hops in beer soap

I've used hops infused oil, and hops on top, and beer. Smell never came through. Now I always scent with some FO, like oatmeal stout FO.

Talllow based soaps, tallow users and where you get it..?

I've bought the tallow shortening from Cash and Carry which is the same chain as Smart and Final. cmzaha, does yours say it's just tallow? Mine is tallow and soybean oil. I tried to find the % mix from the manufacturer, but no luck.

    Another Sodium Citrate post.....

Do you do this instead of adding citric acid to your soap? Right now, I dissolve citric acid in water, then add to my oils before adding the lye. What is your method?
