Syndet shampoo bar recipe help needed

@Gaisy59 - So, I'm trying the 'Curly Girl' method on my hair and make my own syndet shampoo bars. They are hard as a rock, last me for a couple of months (I don't shampoo daily any more) and are gentle on my hair. The curly girl method is a way to get your curls/waves under control and if...

    Heat Transfer method

So, yes, I used a spoon to break up the large chunks of palm oil. I had the entire bucket sitting on the blue heating pad that you see in the picture just to warm it up a little bit and the coconut oil had mostly melted, so I know it was getting warm, but - I still had the same thang! lol I...

    Heat Transfer method

@BattleGnome - Nope, didn't take any temps at all. It was probably 5 minutes between the making of the lye solution and me pouring it in - maybe a little longer, but not by much. I didn't even think about taking the lye solution temp - that probably would have helped! Here's my recipe: Olive...

    Dissolving lye in hot water

To be clear - NEVER use vinegar on the skin. It will make the lye burn WORSE! Only clean surface areas with vinegar. Cold water on lye burns for 15 minutes or a trip to the emergency provide in your area if it's bad enough.

    Jumping right in

What an awesome idea! (as is sending only 1/2 bar of soap!) Wow, can you see my brain exploding! That's been my major complaint, that my 'testers' don't let me know what they like and what they don't like. You've solved that for me! I'm sure not everyone sends back the postcard - but then...

    Benefits of a salt bar?

Thanks for that! I'll try reducing my salt next time... I've never used a salt bar, so this is an adventure for me, at least! :D

    Benefits of a salt bar?

Well, I have soda ash, not swirling so much. That may have been the OP, sorry. But yes, I did check and the salt I used has Tricalcium Phosphate in it. Do you think that would contribute to the ash? Or the heat contribute to the ash?
