    EO percentage in CP soap

Do you find the cedarwood scent comes through when using just a 'titch'? It's such a robust scent. I'd like to try this, but I don't necessarily want that woody smell in everything. Do you use Virginian?

    CPOP How long to OP?

That hour or so wan't quite long enough for my soap as it hadn't fully gelled the last 1/4 inch or less. Plus I took the soap out a bit too early (24+ hours) and it stuck to the side a bit. Plus I didn't get the lye to fully dissolve in my aloe so I accidentally superfatted a bit more than...

    Choosing a soap cutter

I find it pretty easy to hold with my short guide along the side. I couldn't keep it steady enough without the side guide rough.

    Choosing a soap cutter

I purchased a highly rated miter soap wood cutting box with included blades on Amazon - and I was constantly getting uneven wonky cuts. So I got a cheap cheese cutter, like what TheGecko suggests above - this works much better, though you do need to DIY just a bit as suggested.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I've used 3 different stick blenders so far, and one of them actually sucked air down through the stick (their was a seam in it) - constantly adding air bubbles. Super annoying! I haven't had an issue with the little bit of air that gets trapped in the other two blenders I use and I may just...

    CPOP How long to OP?

I've been getting a lot of little bumps atop some of my soap, though I thought it was from accidentally sucking in air as I was stick blending the thickening soap - think this is from the OP? I used to be able to simply throw some towels over my small loaf molds while the soap sat in our warm...

How many soap makers get insurance?

Yes, at least as far as I know. I suppose I should double check that soap is covered!

How many soap makers get insurance?

While we've yet to sell our second bar of soap - we do have insurance, as we've had a natural cosmetics shop since 2013.

    CPOP How long to OP?

Ended up having to take my soap out after about an hour (I turn the oven off as soon as the soap goes in), cause, you know, the fams got to eat! It looks like it's gelled already, though I'm no expert. It's about 90 in the house now anyway, so it'll probably be alright.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Purty patterns! I just made a batch of 71% almond oil soap with some red French clay, aloe, and lemon essential oil mix. It's OP right now. I made a similar soap about 5 weeks ago (without the clay, aloe and different EOs) that I tried recently and was impressed with how it turned out, so I'm...

    CPOP How long to OP?

I believe I've read an hour is more than enough time, but I was just wondering what you all typically do. I've been OP my CP soap at 170 F (the lowest my oven will go) for a half dozen batches or so now and typically just leave it in there for an indeterminate amount of time - and once had it...

    So many weeks to cure...

I just tried a 53% Shea soap that has surprisingly good lather (19% babassu 7% castor). Though it seems like most my higher percentage buttery soaps don't lather too great. I've never tried Kokum as the price is too high compared to cocoa and the numbers are the same on soapcalc....

I understand Hope - I hope you sell tons of it! We're lardless vegan soapers here anyway, so I guess I'll never know the lovely lather of lard...

    Hello Soapmaking friends!

Welcome! Site newbie to newbie. I didn't even pick this pic, it just showed up magically somehow through the intertubes. I must have added it to something at sometime and now it follows me around...that little boy is now 6 and pic is from a hike in Malibu.

    Organic cocoa butter in soapmaking

FWIW I regularly go over 20% cocoa without issue. At least, the soap seems fine to me.

    So many weeks to cure...

So what's the formula!? I'm always looking for something new to try out, in case you feel like sharing. The few soaps I tried within a week or less of making, were all pretty weak, lather-wise (except for the super high coconut oil formulas). I did find that they worked more or less just fine...

    So many weeks to cure...

Thanks for all the replies all! If there's one thing I do know after making my first couple dozen bars, it's that it does take time (at least to have a nicely soaping bar) and the more the better. What I really wanted to know was why - what exactly needs to happen? And I think AliOop hit the...
