Here is a link to IrishLass's post on How to Properly/Safely Conduct the Zap Test, hope this helps

    Starting My Soaping Journey

Thank you Zing, appreciate your continued support! This weekend's project will add some colour to my collection .. Unrelated, this afternoon I harvested a small number of calendula flowers, now that those I collected a fortnight ago have been replenished. Wish I'd thought of it earlier when...

    Starting My Soaping Journey

Hallo @amd, many thanks for your feedback, I've got some practice making white soaps now! Post #39 is a soy wax soap, the exact recipe I used is: 20% soy wax 20% coconut oil 20% olive oil 15% rice bran oil 10% Shea butter 10% apricot kernal oil 5% castor oil with 4% superfat and 33% lye...

    Starting My Soaping Journey

Thank you Meena, good suggestion, I did have the intention of adding some colour to this but let the soap get away on me. Fortunately my first two soaps are quite distinct from one another, gorgeous cream vs stark white (and also distinct forms) but this third bar is an unknown exactly where in...

    Starting My Soaping Journey

Third Batch in the Mould: KiwiMoose's Poly-Oil Bar This morning I made a batch of KiwiMoose's soy wax bar, a bit of a jump for me using not only new ingredients, but multiple ingredients! I carefully followed through my list of instructions, checking everything off the list. The soap batter may...

    For our New Zealand friends

Thank you @KiwiMoose for checking in on me earlier and your kind words, and the kind sentiments of everyone else here. I'm a little lost for words. It was a horrific afternoon and terrifying not knowing the extent of the attacks. Tomorrow will be quite a different day to how this day began, we...

    Soy Wax Users

I am happy to report that this weekend I graduate not just past mono-oil soap making, but right up to Soy Boy Wax User level! I have my soy wax GW415, I have the recipe of the wonderful Princess Poly-Oil herself (thanks @KiwiMoose!), and I have enthusiasm. It will be white, it will be unscented...

    Oops!!

Sorry to hear this soaping experience didn't go as planned but I hope it turns out alright in the end. Just be aware that pH strips are not an accurate way of testing soap, the advice I've read around here is to leave it for at least a few days and then zap test it (not directly on your...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Thanks Meena, yes, I'd been warned that 100% CO may not be nice for my skin, but I was interested in seeing what CO behaved like compared to OO (what a difference!) and someone suggested making salt bars out of it. This way gives me an experience and I can see what the varying levels of salt are...

What soapy thing have you done today?

100% Coconut Oil 20% Superfat with Fine Sea Salt Differing salt percentages: 0%, 25%, 50%, 100% (left to right) I unmoulded these a little early to be able to cut the bars I'd made in half, which is why they look a little 'beaten'. Thanks to those who helped me with this, and to all of you...

Got carried away and look what happened!

Haha, it's all part of the experience, and you've clearly wrapped up some brilliant experiences as well! Luckily I managed to cut my bars Ok (was only 90 minutes after moulding), but they didn't come out as cleanly as my soaps in individual moulds which I left longer. Learning!

Got carried away and look what happened!

Wow, your Easter soaps look amazing! Added the picture to my inspirational soap images collection! (Most of it is @KiwiMoose's ;)). One day I will make beautiful nice-looking soap. And I've just attempted a salt bar recipe myself, fortunately with individual moulds although I am hoping to cut...

    Starting My Soaping Journey

Update: Batch 2, 100% Coconut Oil 20%SF with sea salt I'm at it again! (Finally!). This recipe was 100% CO 20%SF and at @Steve85569's suggestion I made salt bars at different levels of salt. I also followed @Dean and @KiwiMoose's advice and used 50% of the liquid as ice, this worked a treat! It...

    Starting My Soaping Journey

Thank you Lenarenee! I'd say, "just wait until you see what I do next" but I suspect they'll be simple bars for a while yet (I gotta focus on one thing at time, at the moment that's Recipe), hopefully still beautiful though! Oh, I do have new moulds on the way, ("just wait until you see what I...

    Starting My Soaping Journey

Thanks Steve, I am still curious about how a 100% CO soap will treat my skin so your suggestion of testing that as a salt bar is a good idea! Are you suggesting 100% salt? In my reading I've seen 20% to 40% to 50%, but not as high as 100%. I'd ask what to expect, but that's what experimenting is...

Does anyone else have this problem?

I have just started having ads take up half the screen on my phone, as I scroll down, the ad remains at the top of the screen giving the result you describe, perhaps this is what you're experiencing also? ETA: This was viewing SMF in Chrome on my phone. This morning ads have returned to normal...

    Starting My Soaping Journey

So .. I put it in the oven to this morning before I went out, and checked about 6 hours later: the tops had properly set this time and I got a bar out but, ooop -- the side collapsed and smeared away! Not too badly, but the oven wasn't available anymore so I left the lot in a warm spot in the...
