What would YOU say about handmade soap?

I would add that it is the most environmentally friendly form of soap reducing our overall chemical footprint. It is made with ingredients that are produced by the food industry with minimal processing and energy expenditure and it is totally biodegradable minimizing damage to the waterways.

    Aloe-Avo Blast hanger swirl

Very pretty soaps. FB's Avobath sticks very well. Smells better than plain lemongrass.

    Mixing Micas-With what, and how?

If you want to make a larger mix to keep long term, I suggest you use glycerin and not oils. The oils will go rancid fast when mixed with some mica unless used in a day or 2.

    Fresh scents?

If you want to try some FOs from BB, I suggest Bonsai, Kentish Rain, and Bamboo Mint for a fresh type scent. All 3 survive CP very well. Try to get a small sample to see if you like them. I've also used their 10 fold orange EO and it does much better in CP than the regular strength EO.

    Looking for Fragrances

The lard smell reflects the breed, the age and the diet of the animals as well as a person's unique sense of smell. It is hard to control. My suggestion is to buy deodorized lard unless you figure out a process to deodorize it yourself. It can probably be done with the use of activated...

Batch with new FO the texture of molding clay after four days. Rebatch or nah?

My infrared thermometer reads about 2 to 3 degrees lower than actual temperature. It's close enough for this purpose. You can use it without any problem. The 170oC is not set in stone. It's what I like for the amount of water I have in my soap. You just need the mass to turn into a somewhat...

Batch with new FO the texture of molding clay after four days. Rebatch or nah?

Deaana's post made me realize that I didn't ask you if you ran your recipe through soapcalc to make sure you have the right amount of lye particularly since you made a substitution. If you don't have enough lye, it can make the soap soft. Also, the amount of water in your recipe can affect how...

    Soapapalooza Fragrances

Yes, it is the Teak Wood from FB. For some reason, FB has it as two words on their website instead of one, last time I checked. It is stronger and a bit different than Big Sur. To my nose, it smells better. It discolors to a light sandy beige and has longevity (> 8 months). I don't have any...

Batch with new FO the texture of molding clay after four days. Rebatch or nah?

No need to rebatch, just bake. Since it is pliable, squish it back in a silicone mold, smoothing it as best you can. Bake in a 170-200oF oven for 2 to 3 hours until it looks like a translucent mess. You want the soap to reach about 170oF. Turn the oven off and leave the soap in it until it...

Very elegant and just perfect! I wouldn't change a thing.

    Anyone order from this merchant...?

I order some things from them. They have good quality oils. Soaper's choice is cheaper for me because of shipping. For the oils I've ordered, they always sent me a certificate of analysis that included the saponification value for the specific batch they sent me. Their quality control is...

    Where to source Organic Beeswax?

I second Glorybee. Their bee related products are very nice. Their honey is lovely. You can actually taste a difference in the flavor of the various honeys. Just in case somebody is looking for honey too. JEdwards is another supplier with good prices if you are buying larger amounts. They...

    Soapapalooza Fragrances

I found out about Soapalooza shortly before she shifted to selling mostly wholesale. It is unclear to me if she is going to continue to sell small volumes or she is just getting rid of her inventory. I bought a few samples or small bottles and made tiny testers with them. Overall, she has...

    Doing Good in 2017

I'm in. I've been rebatching some of the faders from my FO test to make M&P for a while now. I'm not trying to make transparent soap, just make the rebatched soap look better and last longer. It's working so well that the rebatched soaps are walking out of my basement along with the regular...

    Rapeseed Oil

Find out if it is "wild type" rapeseed. If it is, it will have about 50% monounsaturated long chain fatty acids. Think C20 and longer. It would be more similar to meadowfoam than olive oil. It won't be a substitute for any of the oils listed. You will have to test to see if you like the...

    Fragrance Buddy's Coffee Bean FO?

FWIW, the FO didn't survive. My tester continued to discolor into a dark brown despite having very little vanilla. It lathers relatively white but the water is brown. There is very little scent when wet. It is more of a chocolaty sweet vanilla than anything else. I tried to lather it down a...

    Fragrance Buddy's Coffee Bean FO?

I have it. I'll check my tester tomorrow and report back. If I remember correctly, this is one of those FOs that just don't survive well.

WSP - Cyber Monday FO sale

I stopped myself from ordering from Fragrancebuddy yesterday. I have a number of FB testers that made it through a year or so that I really wanted for me. I told myself that I can't buy anymore FOs until I eliminate half of what I have one way or another. Anyway, FB has incredibly reasonable...
