    Need opinions of this oil.

I don't know. I'm leaning towards just staying with Soapers Choice, the savings aren't that dramatic. (Maybe around 20 percent after shipping.) Plus when I am up near where shunt lives I can always go to American Specialty Oils. But I don't know about harvesting with those sources either.

Shunt: Can you empty their lye into a 5 gallon container with a lid and it keeps ok over time?

    Need opinions of this oil.

I'm near Monroe Michigan and usually just buy the palm oil from Soapers Choice or if I am up near American Specialty Oils Co., I buy votated Palm there. The oil above is mainly palm and I assume hydrogenated soy and cottonseed are used to make it stable and not separate?

Question on error in oil used

Learned as a kid when helping my grandfather and grandmother make their annual soap batches in the summers in the late 60's and early 70's. I'll try and remember to say how it is and to the other member, I buy the laurel berry oil from the link below. It is expensive.......$200 for 5KG (1.3...

Question on error in oil used

Question on error in oil used

Surprisingly the lather was good........much better than I thought but I use other stuff for lather. Good to hear you think it will be a milder soap even though the super fat is so low. ETA: Oh, laurel berry oil has some cleansing properties........quite a bit lower than coconut or Babassu...

Question on error in oil used

Been soaping for 40 years but I still make BIG boo boos now and then.......LOL!! Well here goes............Soapers Choice sent me 10 lbs of Cocoa Butter in a box instead of Babassu Oil like I ordered. I, like an *****, did not notice this and used a lot of it in a LARGE batch. The recipe...

Olive Oil Soap Factory in Syria

FWIW I buy my laurel oil from http://www.laurelberryoil.com/. It IS expensive...........5KG costs $200 shipped to Michigan. ETA: Oh, 5KG is roughly 1.3 gallons.

"I will PAY you to teach me!"

FWIW, I only give away soaps and the family uses them at home. Never sold soap. I have many people ask for what recipe they should start out with and I always keep it simple. 50% lard/tallow/palm or even grocery shortening (their choice), 30% OO and 20% CO. They have always been happy with...

    Opinions Needed Please..........

Update: Made the soap..........turned out good. (Needs to cure a bit more but I tried a bar and it is nice stuff IMHO.) A good amount of lather and the laurel berry oil gave it an evergreen type of scent. I didn't add any fragrance oils. I didn't notice much difference between babassu oil...

    Opinions Needed Please..........

No, it's just something I am making on a whim. I doubt there will be much difference..........I'll try and remember to post the results in a few weeks after it is cured but I doubt the babassu will make too much a difference. Just something I want to do. ETA: Same for the laurel fruit...

    Opinions Needed Please..........

Ok, I do the double boiler HP method (not really pertinent to this question but just to let you know). I am making an "expensive oil" soap using up babassu and laurel fruit oil for about 48 bars of soap (each batch is 48 ounces of oil). Recipe: Babassu - 10oz Laurel Fruit Oil - 8oz...

    Mechanic's/Gardener's Soap

FWIW.....I make batches that are always 3 pounds of oils. When making soap for gardening/mechanic work I add 4 ounces of kerosene to my HP double boiler soap after it is done and before adding FO. Dissolves dirt and oil a bit better than the regular soap.

    Lye Problem with Milk Soap

Yes it does and thank you! I made the batch yesterday and it went fine doing what you members suggested. Turned out tannish brown from the heat but that's ok.
