    Salt Bar Recipe

My recipe is almost identical to @shunt2011's. I use cavity molds and spray the tops with isopropyl alcohol at least once, several times if I remember, to help reduce soda ash. I made my first bars a year ago, but didn't want to overdo it, in case I didn't like them. Well! I definitely liked...

Dust-free, scratch-free scouring soap paste cleanser

@IrishLass - Thank you! I love this kind of thing. You can buy washing soda at WSP. I usually buy it in bulk there when there's some sort of discount.

Glass vs Plastic for Soap Batter

I have multiple sizes of stainless steel measuring cups that I use for soapmaking and personal care making. Here's a 2-qt one from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B010PJUD98?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title I like these because they are not heavy, are not breakable, can be heated in a...

    Random Picture thread (non-soap)

@earlene I appreciate your sharing that cabin picture and speaking of it so matter-of-factly. We are blessed with so much comfort and ease that we come to expect it. We actually CAN live without every modern convenience, and often become stronger and more resilient and creative as a result.

@IrishLass, Can't wait to hear how you like it!

    Solid Dish Detergent

Re: swiping a damp cloth over the paste ~ Instead of doing that, I use a clean, dry spoon to dish out approximately how much I think I'll need in a cleaning session. I swipe my sponge across the spoon to reload the sponge. If I estimated wrong and need more, I can easily clean/dry the spoon and...

    Solid Dish Detergent

@Misschief, I've made Marie's (Humblebee & Me) dish paste and love it! I always keep some on hand, mainly for cleaning the bathtub, sinks, and some special dish projects (like getting tea stains out of my mugs). I've made the recipe as given, but prefer to use half baking soda/half pumice.

What Do You Like About Salt Bars?

Last weekend I made a discovery with my salt bars. Since I found that I really do like them, I've been steadily making more. My 'salt bar mold' is a 6-cavity silicone muffin pan, so I'm limited to making 6 bars at a time. Anyway, last weekend I was preparing to make a batch when I discovered...

What Do You Like About Salt Bars?

When talking to my daughter recently about the salt bars I'd sent her, she commented that she'd had to unclog the bathroom sink less often since using the salt bar at the sink. Using the salt bar was the only different thing she'd been doing. Prior to that, she was using just a normal bar of...

    Purple Lilac Soap

Mad Micas' Grape Nehi has stayed a true purple in any soap I've made with it.

Pine Tar & Neem Oil CP Recipe

I have made a shampoo (syndet) "bar" with pine tar. DeeAnna is correct in stating that it won't firm up. It didn't matter to me . . . I just put it in a disposable condiment cup, and my son uses a small plastic scoop to dish it up. It's not stored in the shower, so is not exposed to wet. The...

Does anybody have a favorite jasmine fragrance?

I have liked New Directions Aromatics (NDA) Jasmine. I do not, however, like NDA's minimum purchase policy in order to avoid an extra fee. I also haven't bought from them in awhile, so I don't know if they still have the same Jasmine.

    Cinnamon Leaf?

I have both and use both but in different recipes. Cinnamon bark is the sweet smell that we associate with cinnamon rolls, snickerdoodles, etc. Cinnamon leaf is definitely different. If you want the typical cinnamon smell, do not use leaf. It is more like clove. Yes, they both accelerate, in my...

What Do You Like About Salt Bars?

This has been a fabulous thread - so glad I asked for input! Thanks, everybody :). I'm ready to make some more now so I won't have to wait when my current stash runs out.

What Do You Like About Salt Bars?

Earlier this year I read about salt bars and became intrigued. I made about 5 - 6 small batches and proceeded to wait for the cure. I realized that, while I knew that some of you (or your family members) liked them, I didn't know why. Now that I've used several, I know at least one reason why...
