What soapy thing have you done today?

They sucker me in nearly every time with the fragrance sales. I bought a bunch of new scents including Spiced Winter Apple, Gingerbread & Caramel, Cool Cucumber, Pink Grapefruit, Cashmere Cream, Reindeer Poop, Star Jasmine & Vanilla, and Georgia Peach. I also got some Tussah Silk and I'm going...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made three batches over the weekend and they are all Winter/Christmas scents. The yellow are White Tea and Pear (from Nurture Soaps), the blue are White Christmas (from WSP), and the green are Christmas Splendor from Bulk Apothecary. The green ones are going to be 'Elf Poop'!

What soapy thing have you done today?

That's what I'm working on too. I have some nice gift boxes and I'm planning what to put in them. I think a goat's milk soap, a 4oz jar of bath salts, and a 4oz jar of goat's milk lotion. I also ordered some more packaging supplies like organza bags. They work great for odd shaped soaps (like...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I'm going to get that same "poop" mold and make Reindeer Poop (from WSP) scented soaps for Christmas markets. People really liked my lump of coal soaps last year and I've already make some more of those and then I'll also add the 'poop' soaps.

    Liquid HP methods

I don't remember now where I read it but one soap site said you could hold back 15% of the water from the lye solution. For my recipe that was 2oz. I mixed a 1/4 oz of the powdered goat's milk with the 2oz of water.

    Liquid HP methods

The pumpkin soaps are Pumpkin Cider scent and they smell so good! I was a little underwhelmed the first time I used the sodium lactate. It did make the batter a little looser but not a huge difference. Then the second time I stirred like my life depended on it (ha!) and it made a big difference...

    Liquid HP methods

I make HP goat's milk soap and I hold back 15% of the water (from the lye solution) and mix that with powdered goat's milk and add after the cook when it's cooled down to 180 degrees. I usually add the fragrance oil before the goat's milk at around 190 degrees. I stir it frequently while I'm...

How many soap makers get insurance?

I just joined HSCG and got the insurance I needed. Thanks so much for this info! This will increase the number of craft shows we can participate in as well as having coverage now.

Thanks; I'll try some of these!

How many soap makers get insurance?

I do sell and I've tried multiple places to get insurance as some craft shows do require it and I haven't found one that will give me a policy. They've all said I don't make enough money yet (we've been online for a few years and just started craft shows at the end of last year). Anybody have a...

    Lye in my eye help

I agree with Soapdragon, switch to goggles instead of the safety glasses. That's what I use and they'll give you better protection.

What soapy thing have you done today?

My first batch of Christmas/Winter soaps for the year! They are scented with Frosted Cranberry from WSP and colored with Brick Dust mica from Nurture Soaps. I'll package them in white organza drawstring bags. It was the first time to use my new owl mold and I'm really happy with how they came...

What soapy thing have you done today?

My latest batch of goat's milk scented with Vanilla Fig from WSP. This one is a nice Fall scent and sold well at craft shows last year (in melt and pour soaps). It's got an 8% vanilla content so I'm curious to see how much the color will change. It's only been a couple of days and it's already...

I think it's very cool! I would have given you more votes for sure.

Your experiences trying FO's that smell awful OOB?

I've used the WSP Lavender Vanilla in hot process soap and it came out fine. I don't really like lavender scents (but others do and I like to offer a variety of scents).

    Lard soap

The BB calculator only show plant oils. I switched to using the one at WSP here: - Wholesale Supplies Plus This one also includes animal fats and gives you a breakdown of the properties of your soap.

What soapy thing have you done today?

When I'm adding FO or EO, I use disposable pipettes to take it from the bottle to my measuring cup/scale.

    Lard soap

I actually use 22% coconut oil in my Lard recipe and it doesn't dry my skin and lathers really well.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I've been feeling down too the past couple of days (just so much negativity everywhere) but I played around with my craft show display that I keep set up in one of my rooms and that made me feel better. I rearranged some of my soaps and tried out some new lighting. I also tried my hot process...

    Lard soap

I use 30% Lard (the highest percentage of any oil/fat) and then other oils including coconut oil, avocado oil, sunflower oil, and olive oil. I also add in reconstituted goat milk after the hot process cook. I'm in Texas with very hard water and this soap has a lot of great lather and is gentle...
