    Marta Tarallo’s Book- Question

Not that I am looking to delve into shampoo bar making but just wondering what "EWG" stands for.

    Soaping is my Therapy

Had such a ****** day at work the other day and was walking around my house in a funk so I figured I would make a small 4 bar batch of soap. It really is such a therapeutic hobby. The whole process was so relaxing and here are the results. Love my 4 bar mold. Takes less than an hour and half...

I want to up my color game. What is out there?

Your name does not say if you are in the U.S or not but Nurture Soaps and Mad Micas are some of the more well known companies in the U.S. They both have an incredible array of colors and testing notes and pictures showing what the colors look like after saponification. Nurture Soaps has free...

SMF May 2021 Challenge - One Pot Wonder

I am pretty sure my entry is the one you are referring to. I did not pour the entire portion of each color. If my entry is not included then so be it. Not sure why either way makes much of a difference except for the fact that i guess i didn’t follow the “rules”. It’s one of my best design...

May 2021 Challenge Entry Thread - One Pot Wonder (OPW)

Same as Stephd31. First ever soap challenge of any kind and I only made one attempt. For colors I used Tahitian Teal, Twilight and Pow Pow Purple from Mad Micas. FO was Somali Soul from Nurture Soaps. Recipe was something I have been using a lot lately with one tweak here and there for soft oil...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Placed an order for some sustainable Palm Done Right palm oil from Jedwards along with some high oleic safflower oil and rice bran oil. Shipping costs kind of sucked but it’s the only place I could find small amount of palm oil that is associated with Palm Done Right.

Angled layer soap - First try

I can’t take full credit on the color choice. With the help of a color wheel app and my daughters input we chose those 2 colors. Thanks for the positive feedback, appreciate it.

Angled layer soap - First try

First time trying a layered angle pour. I am sure there is some math involved to know how to tilt the mold to get equal triangles but I just eyed it out. Still pretty happy how it came out. Tahitian Teal and Tangerine Dream from Mad Micas and 8th and Ocean from Nurture Soaps is the FO.

    Watermelon Lemonade

Not a drop swirl. It was a variation of the Clyde Slide. Google "Clyde Slide" and you should find some You Tube videos. It is like an In the Pot Swirl. It was very easy to do.

    Watermelon Lemonade

Chalky coming out of the mold. Some areas at the corners of the mold were crumbly and broke off. Have not used it yet so don’t know what the lather is like yet.

love my 6 month old Salt Bar

I finally tested one of the salt bars I made 6 months ago and I really love it. Its the first time I have been able to notice different qualities of different soaps. The lather and the bubbles from the salt bar was fluffier and softer and had a lightness to it. Hard to describe but it was a...

    No more CPOP for me

DeeAnna, you nailed it on the head. I am guilty of exactly what you mentioned. Sometimes I blindly follow the pack instead of doing what is right for me and what has worked for me. Rather than deal with figuring out how to get consistent results from CPOP'ing I think I would rather go back to...

    No more CPOP for me

Yea. Calibrating my oven is probably something I should do. I am also thinking it could have something to do with my high lye concentration which is 40%. I know the higher the lye concentration the higher the temp required to enter gel phase but even back when I was using 30-33% lye...

    No more CPOP for me

Yea. That sounds about right because I am assuming my oven runs cold so I was putting it at 200 on the dial thinking it would actually be around 170 but that doesn’t seem to be the case. This last batch was only in a 4 bar mold so no big deal so maybe I will try again and lower temp.

    No more CPOP for me

Tried CPOP’ing again the last couple of batches and both times the bottom and edges of the soap are crumbly. Same exact recipe that I did not CPOP came out of the mold beautifully and is smooth as glass. Not sure what I am doing wrong but just going to go back to wrapping in towels and heating...

    Post your Gripe

My gripe is dopey people that make soap. I am on a Facebook group of all male soapmakers (I know, seems sexist) This yutz is asking why his soap is crumbly and neglects to say that he completely forgot to put his olive oil in because he was slightly buzzed when he made the soap. I have done some...

    Fruit loop FO

I bought a bunch of fragrance oils from New York Scents around Christmas time and was pleasantly surprised with the quality and prices. I will be placing another order soon.

    Hi from New York!

Welcome @stephswan. Fellow New Yorker here. I am in Long Island. I too have used soaping as a way to combat some issues with depression. Something very soothing about the whole process even though sometimes I do get stressed out about results and planning.

Am I doing something wrong, no stick blender for emulsion

Patience is the hardest thing to deal with at the beginning. Like someone above said, the smaller batches don't generate a lot of heat so they will take a lot longer to fully saponify and get hard enough to remove from those individual cavity molds. For one of my first batches in an individual...
