What soapy thing have you done today?

Planned my next soap. Going to try an alternating wall pour with 4 colors. Cabaret, Material Girl and TD from Nurture Soaps and Pow Pow Purple from Mad Micas and then FO will be Cavalier from Nurture. Keep flip flopping in my head if I should use Activated Charcoal instead of the TD. I am...

Max % palm oil in CP?

Are you selling? Only reason I ask is that it seems that people that prefer "veggie" soap are also the same people that frown upon using palm oil in soap.

Anybody ever try using "exotic" additives for their cleansing soap?

I am going to play devil's advocate here and say that if you are looking to add all these type of "exotic" additives, wouldn't it just be easier to buy a specific soap targeted to your needs. The beauty of an artisan soap recipe is in it's simplicity - lye solution plus oils equals soap.

    Taiwan-ish type thingy

Lol. They are very similar. It even looks like you had a little orange in there that disappeared just like mine. If you zoom in on mine you will see little remnants of the Tangerine Dream from Mad Micas. Not sure why it got lost and eaten up by the yellow which was Mimosa from Nurture Soaps.

    Taiwan-ish type thingy

I switched to Sorbitol based on a suggestion from @AliOop - I will check back in to this post in a few weeks and let you know what I think.

    Taiwan-ish type thingy

Latest batch. First time adding sorbitol instead of granulated sugar and first time adding sodium gluconate and Tetrasodium EDTA. Champagne FO from Nurture Soap.

Irish Spring fit for a slab...

I have used a few scents from New York Scents and have had mixed results. They all smelled fantastic but a couple did not behave well. They have great prices and their selection is growing pretty fast but not enough customer reviews to really know what will happen when using them.

SoapMaking Friend Recipe Calculator INCORRECT Regarding Adapting Recipe Size to Cylinder Dimensions

I do think there is something wrong with the cylinder conversion on Soap Making Friend but what you have listed is incorrect. In your first bullet point where you say the TOTAL BATCH WEIGHT is 1884.47g. That is actually not the total batch weight but the total amount of oils/fats that should be...

    Holy soap scum Batman!!

Just got back from vacation in the Outer Banks NC. Rented a house with 4 other families and brought about 20 bars of my soap for everyone to use. I have never added any chelators to any of my recipes because Long Island water is not hard and I do not sell. Well, long story short - the water at...

protecting my soaps while on vacation

I am going on vacation next week and have about 75 bars of soap in basement in all different stages of curing. I would say 75% of them have been curing for 6 weeks. I only have about 15-20 bars that are 2-3 weeks cured. I usually empty out the dehumidifier everyday and can't have my MIL going up...

    Cinnamon Supreme Gold Dust

Here is my latest batch. Used Gold Dust and Mimosa micas from NS and a mix of Cinnamon Supreme FO from NS with a little bit of Sweet Orange EO from WSP. Not my best color choices but the smell is awesome. The Cinnamon Supreme behaved beautifully and the Gold Dust mica has subtle shimmer to it.

    High Shea Butter experiment

just used a bar from this high shea recipe i made in February. First time I am able to really notice a difference between bars of soap. This high shea bar had very little amount of bubbles and it takes a little while to get a good lather going but I really loved the skin feel while using it...

    Curing

I stay in the one Facebook group I am in just for entertainment purposes. I gave up being part of discussions because its not worth my time but there sure is some funny stuff being posted. Some of the questions sound like they are coming from a toddler.

    Rice bran oil

RBO is usually a good substitute for Olive Oil. Using both together may not make much of a difference over using either one or the other.

    Adding avocado to soap. Help!

To keep it simple as a way to see how someone else did it I would follow Jan Berry's recipe. I have her book - Simple and Natural Soapmaking and made the avocado soap recipe from it and it was pretty easy to do and I really liked how it came out.

    First casualty - Batch #39

Finally had my first failed batch after 38 successes. It’s a recipe that I have used many times so won’t go into the details. It just would not come to trace. I have not been stick blending for awhile now because I only make 2.5lb batches. Usually just take my time and stir away with my spatula...

Anyone have a good slow-moving CP soap recipe?

Good to know. I almost ordered that FO the other day when I placed an order from Nurture.
