    Birch Natural mistake

Thanks @DeeAnna for the response. I am embarrassed that I even used it without researching safe usage rate first. I am usually very thorough about stuff like that. It was literally 3 or 4 drops which probably works out to be fractions of a percent. To be honest I think it’s kind of silly to send...

What type or brand of FO for CP Lard soap

The supplier should be able to give you a safe usage rate for that particular fragrance oil that they sell. Somewhere between 3-6% of your total oil weight is pretty common for fragrance oils. For essential oils you need to be more careful because they have very specific safe usage rates that...

    New to soapmaking

Welcome to the forum. My soapmaking journey started after ordering a few bars of Dr. Squatch and Bearsville Soap company. I was intrigued by the idea of making the soap myself. That was over a year ago and I have not bought anything from them again. Soapmaking can be an expensive hobby but in...

making shave soap for the first time

Happy New Year to everyone. I am about to make my first shave soap recipe and I will be using a recipe from Jan Berry's book - Simple and Natural Soapmaking. It is the Classic Cedarwood and Coconut Milk Shave Soap. Not really looking for a lengthy debate on what makes a great shave soap or what...

Thanks @DeeAnna. All of that makes complete sense. Happy New Year!!

    100% Usage rate

I was using a frgarance named Afternoon Delight from purefraganceoils.com and the IFRA usage rate was 100%. I am used to using Nurture Soap FO's which are always 6% or about that. What do people do when the usage rate is 100%. I used 10% of my 480g of oil so I used 48g.

Is there something wrong with my ingredients?

it might be the coconut oil. Your recipe is almost 25% Coconut oil. That is more than most people put in their recipes because at that high amount it strips the skin of its natural oils. I would lower it to about 15% or even 10% and up the shea and cocoa butter.

    Lebermuth Fragrances @ Chemistry Store

I always gets a little worried when I can't find IFRA usage guidelines on a site selling fragrances. ETA - Never mind. I saw some fragrances that had some usage info.

    Bought my own Christmas gift!

Congrats. That looks like some nice craftmanship. Where did you get it? @MsBeeHaven I am very good at buying myself christmas presents when it comes to soaping stuff. I told my wife not to worry about soaping gift stuff because I know what I want so it's just easier if I just buy it myself and...

Best simple cold process soap design technique for a first time artesian soap maker?

I find a majority of new members are like this nowadays. I find myself coming to the forum less and less because of this type of nonsense.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Yea. I used spent coffee grounds from when I make French Press coffee. Sad to say the grounds were too big and its way past exfoliating and almost too scratchy to use. Next time I will grind much finer and use way less grounds in the batter. Sucks because the smell was so good (Caramel Coffee FO...

Best simple cold process soap design technique for a first time artesian soap maker?

I agree with the Gentleman. Why are you asking questions and ignoring the advice? If you want to go "balls to the wall" then just do it. Gotta start somewhere.
