What to do with soap that didn't harden?

Make sure you wear gloves when touching soap that isn't hard yet. If it's still soft, that can mean there's still unreacted lye in it which, depending on how much there is, can either burn you or irritate skin at the very least. If you make a loaf that needs to be sliced, that means wearing...

    Aroma Beads question

"350°F oven" to me means a regular oven, not a microwave. Carly is asking about microwaving the beads, not about putting them in an oven.

    Aroma Beads question

Is that the right link? It's not a discussion about microwaving aroma beads.

What to do with soap that didn't harden?

If it hasn't separated, then you most likely reached at least emulsion when you poured. The tops look perfectly flat which means it was a pretty thin consistency and not tracing. I'm with AliOop, just leave it in the mold longer and see what happens.

What to do with soap that didn't harden?

How much oil did you use? What did you blend it with? ETA: Crossposted with AliOop.

What to do with soap that didn't harden?

That depends on what's wrong with it. What is your exact recipe, and how did you make it?

What soapy thing have you done today?

I would be surprised if you found some that weren't pine. They are like 2x4's that way. Lumber is one of the things in short supply due to the pandemic. Prices will be higher than normal for a while yet as suppliers are catching up. Fortunately, I have quite a stash in my garage that was...

Curious about syndet recipe I found + free resource library

Ok. I made the shampoo and conditioner exactly as the original recipe is written (this is the Dutch lady's four ingredient recipe). I actually made it more than a week ago but am only just now reporting here. I am not impressed with the shampoo with cocoa butter. It did produce lather, but not...

The most basic-est conditioner recipe possible?

I've made bars and to me, they are less complicated than liquid. I did make one batch of a leave-in conditioner that's a thinner, sprayable version of the liquid kind used in the shower. I prefer making bars. A conditioner bar uses the same mechanism as an emulsifying sugar scrub. There's no...

What size stainless steel pot do I need?

More than a five gallon bucket. Oil is lighter than water, which means that it takes up more space when you measure it by weight. Off the top of my head it's something like a tenth more. That's exactly what I meant by industrial. There's no way you could use a household size stick blender for a...

    Fl. Oz. vs Oz.

You could cheat and just borrow mine: https://www.soapmakingforum.com/threads/my-spreadsheets-for-formulating-cost-testing.83570/ The one for inventory will calculate your cost by weight if you input the volume you purchased and the specific gravity of the oil. The specific gravity should be...

What size stainless steel pot do I need?

If you're new to soapmaking, I would recommend you only make small batches for a year or two before you think about scaling up and selling. Once you know what you're doing, then you can think about making enough to sell. And I agree with @violets2217 - 40 pounds is a lot of soap. I would only...

    Rescue bunnies multiplied

Baby bunnies are soooo cute. Wait until they get to the age where they start exploring! We had a similar situation once. We had two rabbits who we knew were a girl and a boy, and we kept them in separate cages but next to each other. We went on vacation and hired a boy down the street to take...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Today, my dad helped me modify my mini mixer. I got tired of it eating through AA batteries like there's no tomorrow. He made a D cell size battery box (out of cardboard, of course) for it and I made a wooden dummy battery with terminals which are connected to wires from the battery box. With D...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Made salt soap today. Two small batches, both 100% coconut oil with a 20% superfat. One is made with salt at 50% of the oils, the other is 75% so I can compare. Each batch (173g of oil) made three bars in my flower molds, plus one rectangular guest size bar so I can test the lather periodically...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I have seen them. I bought a sheet of acrylic and am going to try making my own designs though. I know someone with a laser cutter who can cut out my designs. I had considered making the mold with bands or straps on the outside to hold the sides together (it is self-squaring) but I couldn't...

    Discoloring fragrance and bath bombs

Correct, because sugar scrubs are almost always anhydrous. If you add water, or ingredients that contain water, it tends to dissolve the sugar a little bit over time. The grains will be smaller and not as scrubby. So usually the recipes that I see don't have water at all, and if they do it's a...

My husband sure was! I don't normally buy them unless I need the can for something or other.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Today I finally got around to completing the soap molds I have been meaning to get around to for a while now... Actually, I've been working on them a little at a time for the last three days. Between my miniscule attention span and sometimes not being able to stand for long periods of time, it...

Making blue jeans - need advice please!

I just bought some cotton thread, and some heavy nylon as well based on other suggestions, so I can try a variety of thread combinations to see what works. Yes, this looks very helpful, thanks. I have sewn denim before, just not clothes. I used to keep the cut off legs of jeans for small...
