Longevity and? vs? rinsability--is it a tradeoff?

My notebook is big too. I'm starting to think about showering twice a day so I can test more soap and I sure use Covid as an excuse to wash my hands 60 times a day. LOL The man rolls his eyes at me but uses what I ask to give me male feedback. I don't know if my thicker lather was from the...

Longevity and? vs? rinsability--is it a tradeoff?

So interesting! I have a 70% lard / RBO with kokum and it's very nice but the lather feels a little thin compared to my high lard / butter / SAO which is super creamy, thick, and luxurious. I too have hard water. I'm still playing with duplicating the luxury feel at a pauper price tag. :-D Hope

Longevity and? vs? rinsability--is it a tradeoff?

How does the newer soap lather compared to the old one? I've made very similar to both and do love the combination of lard and butter. Butters are so spendy though. Hope

    Is Castile ever not slimy?

Search the forum for Zaneys No-slime castile. Most of us find it not slimy when prepared to her method. Also it's very important to keep out of standing water and allow to fully dry between use. Hope

    Tomato leaf for color?

It's lovely in candles. I would suggest reading the reviews for the scent. I'm pretty sure I recall seeing people comment on blends they made with it. I believe they said adding to florals gave a depth to the blends. I always read reviews to get ideas on scent combinations, acceleration...

    70% Rice Bran Oil soap

How do you ladies think this would work as a soleseif (upping CO a bit). Wouldn't that help harden it a bit as well? Hope

    70% Rice Bran Oil soap

I was happy to see this post today as I have a bunch of RBO to use up and had been thinking about 70/15/15 RBO / CO / butter (was considering kokum as I have another soap with kokum at 20% and kokum plus lard actually made it a smidge too hard). Hope

Using lard in a solesief (brine) soap

I've been reading through the brine threads but I couldn't find anyone mentioning lard. Does anyone here use lard in a brine soap and how did you like it? I did see that someone mentioned it doesn't appear to work well in salt bars but brine is different. I have only made a couple of these -...

Aloe Vera Juice - is adding a little effective?

I checked Kroger last night. It's $8. Hope

Aloe Vera Juice - is adding a little effective?

Have you considered canola for the SAO? I know some call it a trash ingredient but it feels luxurious in the soaps I've had it in. Silky. I do like SAO but it's pricey. Hope

    Lard soap

I have heard rave reviews about sheep tallow. I bet you love it. Hope

    Lard soap

Could I ask if you have found 20% coconut oil too drying with that low of lard? I'm still playing with percentages trying to find that sweet spot for my hard water. Hope

Your experiences trying FO's that smell awful OOB?

I was freaking out last month after adding to my soap. Very fake lemony but it settled down. I did in a soleseif with lemon peel for extra exfoliation. Hope

    Finally using cured soap

I respectfully disagree. I've used a variety of lye soaps over the years - mine and others because I like to support other people. Some are slimy and some aren't. Some are drying, some feel oily and hard to wash off. Depends on age and composition. My first guess was the canola. My...

    Butter Soap

I finally got around to trying butters in soaps. (I've been doing mostly lard and castille though I've made other types, just hadn't ventured into butters yet and wanted to expand my borizons). A week in I already really like my triple butter with aloe juice and yoghurt powder. I poured my...

    Hello from Ohio

Welcome from a fellow Buckeye. Be forewarned that those herbs you love for cooking can be just as addictive in soaps! I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I've lurked here for years and there is tons of great info via the search feature. Hope

    Goat farmer

Or watching the amazing chemistry of water and oils magically turn into "pudding" is so freaking mesmerizing that you just can't help yourself. This is about my favorite part of soaping. Yes, I need to join stick blenders anonymous. Hope

    Goat farmer

It looks pretty. Please post a pic of the cut! I would also caution you on the goats milk lotion. It's very hard to properly preserve. I would advise a reading membership with Swift Crafty Monkey as her blogs are an excellent resource. There are a couple good FB forums and I know there...

    "Cleansing"

Search this group for Zaneys No-slime Castille. Not slimy and cures FAST. I make my water with double the salt, etc. So I can use aloe juice for the other half. It helps with bubbles and feels nice. Do be sure to gel. I just made a batch the other week and have tested it a few times and...
