    First cocoa butter soap

It looks great! Lard might be nice in place of the tallow, but I haven't actually used tallow, I'm just guessing. Lard is really wonderful though. I like a lower superfat most of the time, just because I really love bubbles, but sometimes a high superfat is nice too. Just one more thing to play...

What’s happening here as I melt the hard fats?

@DeeAnna That helps a lot! It is easy to start over-thinking things and get confused, but I can pretty much understand anything that involves chocolate and cookies :)

    Once a Year Sale

Ewwww! And I love that the guy chose lily of the valley. It is difficult to predict who will like which scents. I was with a few friends and we were all swooning over the scent of some fancy deodorent for men, so we each got one for our boyfriends/husbands. Nope. Not one of them tried it. I...

Cera Bellina and Shea Butter in lip balm

It is funny, I have only had a problem with graininess in my balms when using Cera Bellina. So I stopped using it. I think it is user error on my part, but balms are so simple and I have no problems when I don't use it, so why bother? I don't use shea butter in them, so can't help you there. I...

Peppermint oil at 2.5%, too much?

I did make a superstrong peppermint soap in my first month of soaping. I still get some blushing requests to repeat it. "That mint soap. The sensual one." I think it was 5% but it was too strong for me. I do make a batch of 3% peppermint + 3% eucalyptus that is just right. If it seems too strong...

    how to speed trace?

When I'm soaping a few batches I always wonder if it would speed trace if I put in a little batter from the last batch. Not that I want to speed trace. It is more, ugh, do I really have to clean this bowl again? Because I have a favorite soap bowl. Sometimes I use my second favorite soap...

    Unveiled soap a disappointment

@John Harris That is AWESOME!!!!! @Mobjack Bay Oops I think it's called frisket film. But packing tape sounds good too. Blocks held up by pressure and luck rather than skill. I wasn't expecting to be able to make so many divisions when I designed it, I was just hoping to shorten the loaf a...

    Unveiled soap a disappointment

Ok, not sure if I should be feeling proud (they are my very own design!) or embarrassed by how grubby they look. They have seen a lot of use.The tall picture shows the mold with a slice in it for my cutting guide. The movable wood blocks that make the end pieces are covered in frisket tape so...

    Honey & Hemp Oil Soap...

It looks beautiful! I think honey soaps are just one of those fussy things that each soaper has to work out for themselves, because we all soap at different temps, and use different amounts of honey, sometimes with accelerating fragrances too. I have good luck with leaving my honey soaps on the...

Can you use diffuser oils in soap?

No, you need something that is skin safe and formulated to work in soap.

    Unveiled soap a disappointment

@John Harris Yes!! I have an adjustable loaf mold and I love it. A slab version would be awesome. Show us pictures of this great soap knife, please :)

What’s happening here as I melt the hard fats?

I can't see it clearly enough, are they hard-looking white specks? I always think of them as stearic bits. I don't remember how I came to that conclusion though so it might not be true ;) I always make sure they are melted before I soap, and I have never had a problem with stearic spots.... so...
