    Soap Cutters

I have tried the mitre box with a painter's knife sort of thing. Actually the same yellow mitre box as you have, or very similar. It did not work for me. The mitre box is way too small. The soap was higher than the box, and I laid my soap on the side. I have a tall & skinny mold, which is...

What soapy thing have you done today?

@SeattleMartin Yes, I know the gamey smell. It is not necessary unpleasant at all. But I'm not so sure if I want too much of it in soap. I think there must be a way to refine and deodorize the tallow. I will investigate and see if I can find something clever. I know from Youtube it must be...

What soapy thing have you done today?

@Meena, I have tried both high and low water. High water and I got glycerin rivers. Low water, well, I did that because it has some advantages. You will minimize the risk of glycerin rivers, and it is said to slow trace, and less water to evaporate later. Some say the opposite, water reductions...

Additive to prevent soap bar from dissolving too quickly?

Oh my goodness what a great calculator that is! I have never seen that one before. It would have been perfect if they only done two things to improve it, added vinegar and did the calculations for much lye you have to add extra for citric acid, vinegar and other acidic additives. They do that...

    Soap Cutters

A cheese cutter is very affordable, and seems to work according to the ones I have seen on Youtube using it. You can buy something like this: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=cheese+cutter+board+with+wire&crid=2D392EMH0CN4P&sprefix=cheese+cutter%2Caps%2C284&ref=nb_sb_ss_i_5_13 You easily modify it to...

Ideas for a bright green clear soap

If it is supposed to glow in the dark, you need some radioactive pigments. They have a more appealing name, but I can't remember what it is. I found out now, it is actually just glow in the dark pigment. Here is one link for it: https://nurturesoap.com/products/glow-in-the-dark-pigment. Perhaps...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Thank you @Meena :) for all the great advices. And yes, it helps a lot! Okey, now I understand, lard from pig and the rest is tallow. Very easy. I have watched videos on Youtube about rendering lard. To get a non-smelly and snow white color, it had to be rendered at a very low temperature. I...

    My kelp soap stinks

I now bought 45-60 silk cocoons (30 grams) from the UK. It didn't say it they were degummed or not. Perhaps they don't have to be degummed to use in soap, since I guess you @Obsidian used them unprocessed? But how many to use per batch of soap (I use 1000 g/2.2 lbs of oils)?

What soapy thing have you done today?

Yes, please do @SeattleMartin :-) I just now wrote a message on Facebook to my neighbour, asking for reindeer tallow. Yes, I guess tallow is the right word, and not fat. It is nothing less confusing in norwegian than english, we have smult, ister, spekk, talg and probably even more, and I don't...

    My kelp soap stinks

No, I have not tried silk. But I really want to try it..... HELP! Oh no, I will not try it  I found this from swedish Wikipedia, and if it has some truth to it, oh lord, no, no: My translation from swedish to english: " Wild silk is a textile material that resembles traditional silk, but...

What soapy thing have you done today?

They said something very interesting on the TV just now. I had to jump up and listen. Some young people from the northermost of this country made soap, and they used reindeer fat! Reindeer fat, wow! What a coincidence, just when I'm looking for other fats to replace my vegetable lard. Of course...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Thank you @Meena, for really good advice :-) I will try to follow them as good as I can. I have no idea what my coconut is, really, but the manufacturer call it fully hydrogenated or fully hardened (which I think is the same). It is so hard that when stored in the fridge it can't be cut with...

    My kelp soap stinks

Kelp, like most other things, will most likely have no benefits in soap, since 99,9999% of it will be immediately washed down the drains and end up in the sea again. If added to lotions, then y0u might get benefits. I don't believe too much in benefits from this and that added to soaps.

Additive to prevent soap bar from dissolving too quickly?

I have no idea if that is correct or not, but it sounds very logical, since you will get more bubbles the more easily the soap can dissolve in water.

    Reccs for "Single Note" FOs

I just remembered this thread, and I know a link to a site where you can find a huge array of single notes. Not too cheap, but here it is: https://shop.perfumersapprentice.com/c-55-fragrance-oils.aspx They are probably high quality, since they are made for perfumers. If you search for shops...

What soapy thing have you done today?

@Dawni Thank you! :-) I had no idea about that. I will remove the kaolin clay next time, and hopefully the soap behaves a little better.

Does anyone know of a flat digital scale, good for soapmaking?

Hi y'all :-) My scale broke today, so I'm trying to upgrade to a new digital scale with cord, that is both flat and have an accuracy of 0,1 gram (or less, does not matter). It must also be able to weight up to 5 kilo (5000 gram). 3 kilo can do in emergency. But that is the least it has to...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I don't think I will try it very soon, just because I have no idea which ones of my scents that will accellerate or not. I know the behaviour of a few, since I have found Youtube videos from soapmakers in Australia using the same scents I have. Most often I don't have the scents they use, or I...
