That would be a bit exciting, if they are importing the GMO free version! Can you call them to check?

    Oils for hair and scalp

... don't discount the NaOH/KOH ... Just to confirm - is this post about making a lye-based, zero % superfat, shampoo soap (using your recommended oils)?

Cut the HP soap I made last night!

Meena, Indigo is endlessly fascinating - your version has a green tinge that I think goes very nicely with the henna colour. I would love to see some "in-use" pictures once it cures (I haven't tried henna in soap, so I'm intrigued to hear how it cures and whether it affects the lather). I like...

    Eww...slime!

I've had a similar effect in a soap where the superfat was too high (caused by an adulterated oil). The soap recipe did not usually produce a slimy soap. It followed exactly the same pattern - soft in the mold, soft and slightly sticky, and producing strings of slime in use (although the soap...

Is Lye supposed to have a static cling to it?

You could get a grounding strap for your wrist (and optionally a grounding mat to stand your scales and your lye container on) to measure your lye. Grounding mats and straps are used in computer repairs and building, so they are cheap and plentiful. (This grounding strap costs less than $1)...

    What is this?

Hiya Maria! It looks like an oil spot of some sort, with a bit of a salty halo around at least one of them ;) I agree - if they pass the zap test, I would use them :)

My soap smells kind of rancid

Nice! (I actually like the bulleye effect ... the colours will mellow a little during the cure as well ... that green should fade off to a creamy colour in a few months too).

My soap smells kind of rancid

Oh ... then save what I said, but it's not relevant ... your soap is too fresh for any of this to have occurred yet! (Thanks newbie, I did miss that vital point! ... I suspect I'm a bit too tired to be commenting) Ruthiemae, the soap hasn't finished changing ... it will give off some...

My soap smells kind of rancid

I've converted this to soapcalc - the lye concentration and superfat are just fine. Looking at your recipe, the grapeseed oil will likely be the problem. This oil, while quite lovely, is notoriously short lived, and doesn't hold up well when used in high amounts in soaps. The numbers that are...

My soap smells kind of rancid

That's a shame Ruthiemae, but unfortunately if it smells spoiled and is greasy, it is not going to be nice to wash with (the scent will linger, and there's nothing that can be done to reverse the spoilage). If you post your recipe here, there are plenty of people who can help work out what went...

    Soda ash

This makes a difference - what you are describing is the ash developing on the soap after in comes out of the mold. While the silicone (and other inputs) might make a difference, that indicates that the hydroxide is coming to the surface, as the water evaporates from the soap, and reacting with...
