I know this is Lame - can someone help? Chelator - Right Stuff?

EDTA, created in 1935, is a persistant organic pollutant (or POP). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persistent_organic_pollutant EDTA is not biodegradeable, is fossil-fuel based, is resistant to removal in sewerage treatment, is able to mobilize heavy metals in the environment and is toxic to...

    Natural Green color

Clay stays the same green over time, so it's great for soft greens and sage colours. Pulverizing dried parsley to a powder, to distribute as a physical colour (like charcoal) does hold the colour longer than using the herb fresh. This can be done in a coffee grinder or in a mortar and pestle...

soap titration/total alkali test - scientific soapmaking

I haven't run large and small volume tests of Citric acid in reaction with NaOH, but my guess would be that the difference you are seeing in the two volumes is influenced by the degree of accuracy between 1g and 1000grams. A weak acid with a strong base will tend towards basic, so you will need...

soap titration/total alkali test - scientific soapmaking

Citric acid is a weak acid, Hydrochloric acid is a strong acid and Sodium hydroxide is a strong base. Yes, there is a buffering effect with the weak acid and strong base reaction. This might interest you: https://groups.chem.ubc.ca/courseware/pH/section14/index.html (it explains the buffering...

    Little pits when slicing

Glad to have helped! Yes, if you use a knife, it needs to be drawn backwards (blunt edge first) up the face of the soap (in the opposite direction to your original cut) to avoid cutting the soap, and even then a solid knife can leave little waves, if pressure is applied to a fairly soft soap...

    Little pits when slicing

There are distinctive marks on the left hand edge of the soap that occur when the soap is cut slightly soft (the soap must have been placed on it's side when it was cut - those drag marks occurs at the end of the cut, when the blade is lifted from the soap - some of the soap is raised, a bit...

    Bits of stuff in soap

There's a few of us who don't like bits in soap ... I'm one of them. I've gone as far as to modify some of my soleseife recipes, just so the salt crystals don't regrow as the soap dries - I intensely dislike the slightly textured feeling this creates, even in hand soap. (A few more months from...

    Big Rant...sister

Caroline, this reads like domestic violence. If protective services make an application for a protection order, she'll be kept away from the people she's hurting. That would place all of your Mum's care on you and your family ... a tough situation. Stay safe.

    Crayolas to color CP/HP soap

While they haven't got a specific warning about reacting their crayons with caustic, this is worth a look: Crayola's take on using their crayons in cosmetics: https://www.crayola.com/faq/safetymsds/is-it-safe-to-use-crayola-crayons-to-make-lipstick/ @Dawni, there are some pigment makers in the...
