    DOS Query

Snobbery! You are reducing your chances of getting DOS by limiting the time the fat is exposed to the meat, after the animal has deceased - the iron in the blood can potentially trigger DOS, so rapid cleaning is good. Freezing is also good (in my book), not so much for the fat but for any...

    Just curious.

I feel obligated to rotate the soaps (they have to dry between uses after all ;)). I have 2 in use in my bathroom and about 5 or 6 in reserve (let me see ... a tester on the window sill in the sun, the same on a tray in the shade, another soap that is very mild, a salt bar, two soleseifes, a...

    Pouring batter before emulsion.

Whisking is pretty handy for fast moving recipes, but I'd be there a month of Sunday's if I whisked my olive soaps! :D When you whisk, sort of move the whisk up and down through the batter, without breaking the surface too much (it's easy to whisk in bubbles, although they come back out pretty...

    Soapcal

A good alternative is SoapMakingFriend :) https://www.soapmakingfriend.com/soap-making-recipe-builder-lye-calculator/ (It's not you - soapcalc is down).

Not sure how this one will turn out...

I like the look of them too - the combination of red and brown does look reminiscent of cloves :) (Clove does heat a little bit, and the oiliness looks a bit like of heating - it should re-absorb - there's not too much) I've had yellow from avocado - it does fade to cream over time (same as...

    Pouring batter before emulsion.

I've been watching their video's! See the difference in the colour of the batter, from the end (in the bowl) and the start (in the jugs)? ... the jug batter has turned a creamy colour. I think they are not showing all of the mixing - there's a cut at 0.43 to 0.44, where they transition from...

    Pouring batter before emulsion.

The batter needs to be at emulsion before it is divided off, otherwise there is a risk of it separating in the mold. Emulsion does look very thin, but there is a slight change in the look, that @newbie addressed in her thread...

    When experimentation pays off

@newbie posted a description of her technique here, but looking at newbie's photo, a video could be fun ;) https://www.soapmakingforum.com/threads/scooby-doo-soap.73726

I need some advise on an indoor FM issue

For a display restricted to a single table, you have managed to include a lot of stock and still keep that uncluttered feeling ... (not an easy feat!). Looking at the space around you, it could have been arranged with another table for each of the vendors. (I wonder what happened to the other...

What Do You Like About Salt Bars?

@Alfa_Lazcares It is worth keeping one to try again at 12months and 18months ... you may be pleasantly surprised at the difference :)

Amazing! I am loving your new technique @newbie! :)

    Can I rebatch Soleseife Soap?

It has sat for long enough that it's starting to set up. Once the soap has reached the texture of putty dough, I would not attempt to add lye solution to remake it as CP soap (the lye solution will not mix easily into the soap putty), so the options are along the lines of post #2 Like cmzaha...

    Base oil formulating?

A full olive oil castille can be soaped at a variety of lye concentrations, but this soap does suit having a high lye concentrations - if they are soaped with a low lye concentration (considered ordinary for most recipes), the sides can bow in during the cure. While I do like the bowed look in...

    Can I rebatch Soleseife Soap?

I haven't had soleseife separate when I've HP'd it, but it is ridiculously fast and will set up almost immediately it contacts a cool surface or cool air, so if you can, CP would be a lot easier. How fluid is the batter now?

    alien brains

Hi Marilyn, are you able to post the details of the recipe - this will make it easier to work out what has happened :) Just looking at the picture you have supplied, the ash is following the swirl - that pattern tends to happen with higher water soaps. A couple of people here were talking...
