    Cure time Doubters? A Visual

I used one of my salt bars that was 6 months old and it only smelled like... soap. It was scented with lavander EO so I was expecting that.

    Palm Oil

For me, I’m still exploring options and while I understand the whole Palm oil debacle, i found a supplier that claims is sustainable and local, things I can not really confirm first hand. And while I would like to ise more shea and cocoa butters, a) they are waaaaaaay too expensive on an...

I do have one bar from my first ever batch. It was uncolored and unscented and i use it every couple of months to see how is it doing. And happy to report is a very nice bar of soap! The super long cure time really helped and also its got no DOS so thats a plus.

    It’s been officially a year!

I keep a note on my phone with all the batches I have made so far. I started it to know when i would be able to use it, so, naturally, i noted the date and a brief description of the soaps to know which is which. Well, as I was adding todays couple of soaps to the list, i noted that my first...

    Different consistency in same batch

It will saponify too, it just takes longer. Yes, its because of the heat. To gel or not to gel the soap comes down to personal preference, both ways are fine. On the plus side now you have a two soaps from the same batch/same ingredients and one gelled and not so you can compare them and see...

    Trace too thick I couldn't even pour....why?

Just a note, even if this particular FO is not suitable for soap (because it accelerates crazy fast) other FO’s from your supplier might work. I buy small quantities (15 mils) that are just about enough to try. If they work, i buy again, if they dont, i buy others. Trial and error. What i...

    Coffee soap

I’ve made several coffee batches and none smell bad, only the mix with the lye, they all smell, well like the coffee FO that I used.

    Hot process oven process help

You have to put the soap in the mold in the oven, not in the container, cause as you found out, the heat speeds the process and turns it to soap.

What do you do with your scraps?

I make balls with the scraps and either use them on the kitchen sink instead of dish soap for my hands or use them for a new batch with “planets” inside.
