    Math help

I do testers for my colourants. Start at 1/4 tsp for 10oz soap batter and work your way up to 1tsp and see what works for you colour wise and staining. Don’t know about micas but if you Stickblend the same amount of activated charcoal it will be darker than the same amount hand blended.

The Importance of a Sniffy Spot

In Australia (and I’m sure you do in the US too) we have health and safety laws that ensure our food and drink served at a licensed restaurant or bar are hygienically prepared and served.

    Clay Issues?

The orange is glycerine rivers or stearic swirls and the grey side looks like stearic spots. Neither will effect the use of the soap but glycerine rivers tend to cure at different rates so it might get a bit bumpy. You can get rid of glycerine rivers by reducing the water in the recipe to...

    Potato soap update

Is that a soap stamp or a painted on soap stencil? If it's a stamp you might be able to get it a bit deeper if you put plastic wrap down on the soap before you stamp it. Salt makes all soap harder, it doesn't matter if it has all liquid oils.

The Importance of a Sniffy Spot

I don't touch my soap with my hands ever. I use gloves from the moment it comes out of the mold to when I wrap it in paper or real cellophane. I wouldn't buy unwrapped soap and I know that if I was to buy handmade soap I'd hope that the maker would be as hygienic as they could be. Maybe it's...

    CPOP: Cold Process Oven Process

If you preheat your oven to 110*F and turn it off before you put your silicone lined timber mold which you wrap in a blanket or towels you can. That is the true CPOP method that is foolproof. But if you are going to keep the oven on while your soap is in the oven or preheat your oven to over...

    Layers won't stick together

No don’t put the mold in the oven at 250* or 200*F. you will get silicone rash which you can’t see on the mold but will make EVERY subsequent batch have silicone rash - tiny pitted holes on the surface of the soap touching the silicone.

    help. why is this happening?

Great work! Yes soy candles are very popular here (paraffin emits toxic fumes when it burns) but the commercial candle makers never say 100% soy just “soy candle”. Tricky!

Am I over complicating this? Dividing Oils

Your soap will be fine as long as you stick as close you the recipe as possible. weigh it exactly and Divide it as exactly as you can. It doesn’t have to be absolutely perfect just the best you can do and your soap won’t be lye heavy or soft. You’ll learn a lot the first time you do A many...

    Potato soap update

Exactly. But don’t panic regular sugar will do just as well. I’ve even used raw sugar and brown sugar - all work fine.

    Potato soap update

Yes I usually use caster sugar. Sorry it is in metric! You will have to convert. Some orange almond cakes can be a bit sickly. This one isn't.

    Potato soap update

For anyone who is interested here is th orange potato cake. It does have some almond flour but not as much as other recipes. I don't put grated orange in the cake itself.

    Potato soap update

I have a fabulous recipe for a GF orange cake with mashed Potato instead of flour. Sounds awful but it is great. I've never used potato in soap. But you can use rice so I guess it's just like another starch.

    help. why is this happening?

I think what jcandleattic and quanta are saying is that it is part of the behaviour of a pure soy was candle. That's why so many companies add stuff to soy wax so it does not do this.

    Potato soap update

The water left over after you've boiled the pasta will have starch in it. So it will help thicken a soup.

Am I over complicating this? Dividing Oils

CpnDouchette and the gecko are saying the same thing in different ways. CpnDouchette is expressing it as percentage and the gecko is dividing by 4. This is the way I do it too.

    Newbie to CP soap

I dentifying problems can be very difficult. It could be a type of glycering river. The lye concentration was 28% (water as a % of oils 35%). You can avoid those by soaping with a lye concentration of 32%. Not sure though. Your temps were pretty hot. I usually soap around 110*F for both...

    Newbie to CP soap

Unmixed oils. If you used hard oils and they weren’t heated until they were clear this can happen. They won’t effect the soap.
