Can you use both ROE and Sodium citrate when making soaps?

Sorry it too me so long to respond. 2 lb = 900g of oils The minimum you should use is 0.05% of oils but you can use (Kevin Dunn - author of "Scientific Soapmaking" suggests) 0.1% So the maths is: oil in grams x 0.05 = X/100 = grams of ROE to use 900 x 0.05 = 45/100 = 0.45g (half a gram) oil in...

Can you use both ROE and Sodium citrate when making soaps?

What is the total weight of oils a typical batch? And how much carnosic acid is there in your ROE?

I need help with kaolin clay

The powdered aloe is absolutely the same. It's fabulous. Reduced shipping costs! Saves lots and lots of money. I could not keep making soap if I had your costs. It is important to stick to your ideas about natural ingredients etc but do research the value in some of the EOs and the effects...

Coconut and Olive oil only - what do you recommend?

Just to confirm it isn't sharp peices in the himalayan salt it is the salt crystals themselves. Even after dissoving them they reconfigure in sharp crystals.

Help me solve a sensitivity mystery

DH told me about SB vs HB it is scientific and has something to do with shear! 🤣 I dissovle the AC in water or glycerine and I think that has an effect on the scratchiness I used to get - or it might be because I use less? Look for posts on natural colourants and save some money. I only use...

I need help with kaolin clay

I buy aloe concentrated powder and add it to distilled water. Requires a bit of maths. You might find that cheaper than aloe juice especially for shipping. Hopefully someone will come along with a place to buy palm oil and castor oil more cheaply.

Help me solve a sensitivity mystery

I have two soap recipes with no coconut oil and all my other recipes only have 10% coconut oil. My skin does not like coconut oil! I use a very low SF on all my soaps because my olive oil is high. Don't be afraid to cut you coconut oil out entirely. My soaps still lather. It might be...

    Crochet Afghan Finished

Wow! That is fabulous, Relle. I make washers (1/2 double crochet) and I know how much work goes into a project like yours. Great colour choices. Really lovely blanket. Congratulations.

Coconut and Olive oil only - what do you recommend?

Be careful using himalayan salt in soap. Even when you dissolve it when the soap cures it can still scratch. Adding it after trace is really risky. I've scratched myself and drew blood from himalayan salt in a bar I made. Search the forum for other posts on this. The best salt to use is sea...

Essential Oils vs Fragrance oils. What's the difference?

Agree with all the above. Also a lot of EOs accelerate so be prepared. Add them before the lye and Stickblend for a ONLY a few seconds at a time, wait and watch carefully then SB again for a few seconds to get to light trace, then pour.

Anyone have a good source of essentia oils?

I don't use many EOs in soap. Mostly because I'm alergic to most EOs but don't react to the FOs I use! Go figure. Natural isn't always the best. Even in a wash off product. We have a great EO supplier in Oz who tell you where the particular batch of EO is from and the qualities of each...

Mobjack Bay they look fabulous. I love number two and three. They are the most like those beautiful NASA photos. Just beautiful.

Feedback on recipe for Sandalwood Soap

I'd try adding your clay and EO (both will accelerate) before your lye and stick blend well. Then add your lye and you can stir the mixture by hand if it accelerates quickly or stick blend for just 2 or 3 seconds at a time until you reach light trace. Then pour. If your mixture has reached...

I need help with kaolin clay

Johnny, 20lb of soap shouldn't be costing ou $192 to make. Are you buying your supplies from wholesalers? Where are you getting your EOs? EOs don't preserve your soap and they fade quickly.

    Sourcing neutral colorants?

Coffee added to the water fraction makes brown soap. And you can add it to an FO that discolours caramel/brown for a deeper colour.

Would cocoa butter be considered as drying to the skin?

32% Palm, 32% Coconut oil, 32% Olive oil and 4% castor makes a rock hard bar. Some people find the coconut oil at 32% too drying so if you stick to 15% coconut oil and add 10% cocoa butter and 7% of any other oil for the rest of the coconut oil part you should have a long lasting bar.

How do you cut your soap?

To smooth the backs of my cavity molds I fill them right to the top and then scrape the excess off with a plastic cake scraper - perfect every time. Look here: https://tinyurl.com/2tv3w2t8 Or google amazon cake scraper. 2 for $2.50 US Cutting soap by hand requires timing too. If you are not...

    Fizzy bath salt recipe

Mine were from Kmart. Thanks for the link - don't they have a great selection at great prices for just one or two jars. Our local store only had the huge fluted jars. I like the bamboo lids with silicone seals - safer if the mixture wants to expand.

Can you use both ROE and Sodium citrate when making soaps?

Sorry I can’t help more. My soap room has free flowing air and is cool - no sun ever and it’s on the cold side of the house. I wouldn’t blow a fan directly on curing soap. Blowing it around the room is probably ok. Your room must be pretty small if the dehumidifier heats it up. All I know is...

    Fizzy bath salt recipe

This is the type of bath salts I saw in the shop (they don’t sell them online so no exact photo. They were fizzy like my recipe above). They separated the rose petals out in a plastic bag on top but had a display version where they were all mixed in. They had a plastic container with a silicone...
