Oils for Unscented or Lightly Scented CP Soap

100% Coconut soap. I made one test batch of it for dish soap, and it smells just like that, clean and fresh detergent smell. Somebody may not like the smell but I was amazed. I usually throw in some light herbal or citrus scent and they mix well. Also I found different olive oil smells...

Whats the best way to store soaps for drying??

It's not exact science worked well so far in my scenario. Sure i got some DOS occasionally but that's usually from botched batches instead of environment reasons. I'm no soap scientists, but I think the humidity get to the soap more than the heat. If you don't have/want a dehumidifier, a fan...

Whats the best way to store soaps for drying??

My place got hot and humid in summer but not as hot as yous (goes as high as 38C ish). I used to keep them in a room that has AC but since my collection grew larger I had to move them into the living room with no AC. I set up a small fan that points at the soap shelf and is on pretty much 24/7...

Whats a good way to add hardness without changing your oils/butters?

Do you want the soap to be harder and last longer in the long term or just harden faster so you can cut faster? I've used sodium lactate and salt, which does the latter and doesn't change the long term hardness IMO.

Recipe critique - high palm soap

Hi yall I just had the time to make the soap and write down notes. I made a 600g batch and the final recipe is: Palm oil - 60% Coconut oil - 15% Castor oil - 5% Rice Bran oil - 20% SF at 5%, 1:2 lye water ratio, added sodium lactate, cane syrup as usual. Added 2% to oil weight sweet rice flour...

Recipe critique - high palm soap

Interesting, I don't have sorbitol at hand, would sweet rice flour do the sam trick? I've made facial soap with sweet rice flour and sweet rice wine before and it bubbled suprisingly well despite having only 10% CO, I attributed the bubblines to the wine tho.

Recipe critique - high palm soap

I want to see if I can use it as a face bar (which the original post mentioned) and I found 15% CO is about as much as I can go for facial, so I think I will try 15% CO with 60% palm and see how it goes from there.

    Palm oil help?

Your recipe used will be helpful, butr overall you can think of PKO as a slightly milder coconut oil. It will up the cleaning factor and too much can be very drying, but your soap will still be soap. If after cure you found it to be drying, consider rebatching or use it as dish/ laundry soap.

Recipe critique - high palm soap

I believe I was browsing this forum the other day when I saw someone mentioned they made a high palm soap and it turned out great. Unfortunately, I didn't save the post so I couldn't find the source now, only a screenshot I sent to my friends. I haven't soaped in a while and just want to do...

Vitamin C in soap a hoax?

Vitamin C is quite fragile from what I know. The lye monster would definitely eat it up.

Using a spray bottle to apply gold mica...

I've tried a spray bottle for mica but it doesn't work well for me, it gets everywhere. I use a tea strainer and it's easier for me, easier to clean, too. Defintely invest in a respirator, micro powder this this is bad bad for ur lungs.

    tiny embeds breaking

If you already have soap he can use, you can use a peeler to peel it into thin pieces, spray with some water, sit over night, and knead them into dough. This way you don't need to make a new batch just to get some dough.

    Sesame Polka Dot

I've been wanting to try a polka dot soap for a while. Originally I was going to make two batch, one with white dots on brown, another with brown dots on white. Unfortunately, I kinda lost the soap making bug lately and hadn't been very productive, so only one batch got to see the light of day...

    How to create white specks?

I've been wanting to make a dark blue soap with some white streak markbling and some white specks to mimick the night sky. I tried cutting up small bits of white soap but they are not as small and organico-looking as I want. I know you can have titanium dioxide clumping but I would like a more...

    Simply Lard

My first ever batch was 40% lard, 40% olive, and 20% coconut, plain water and no additive or fragrance. After soaping for so long (started in mid 2019), I would like to make a new lard batch to honor my origin. 70% lard, 20% rice bran, and 10% olive, with frozen milk for water, and Sun and Sand...

Just wanna share my dog Potato

Hi just wanna share I rescued and adopted this Potato from a shut-down pet shop. Most of my friends and family aren't that interested in dogs but I really want to talk about him. I didn't really plan to have any pet as I have a hard time taking care of myself (had to set alarm clocks all day...

    Heat Transfer Method

I tried it once but unfortunately my cocoa butter was just too stubborn. Ended up with otherwise perfect soap with bits and pieces of solidified cocoa butter. my advice would be to make sure your recipe doesn't have too much solid fat. It probably works well with a larger batch. If all fat...

2022 (too soon?) Soap Making Goals.

Spacing out my soaping time and plan so I don't get a burn out. Had to stop soaping for a long while this year because I was in a bad mental state and forced myself to continue making soaps even when I'm not feeling up to it but also felt bad since I already measure and poured the oil. Sometimes...

Olive oil soap from the West Bank

Don't speak the language but baking soda is definitely not right. The soap floor is very satisfying tho...I'd love to be able to just to pour on floor without need to worry about unmolding lol
