    Salt Bar

I gave it a bash. I think I did okay considering. Fragrance was Thai Mango & Lime so I thought I would use a pale orange and a pale green, and not gonna lie it looks a little gaudy (but slightly less so in person). I used kosher salt at 50% of my oils, and as you can probably tell I cut it a...

    Salt Bar

Thank you. @AliOop also mentioned a relatively long cure time, so I assume that’s standard practice. I might have to have a bash at a salt bar in the morning.

    Salt Bar

Do you have to do anything different when making your salt bars? Is it just your standard 100% CO recipe apart from the adding of the salt? Edited to add: and a higher super fat maybe.

Complacency Leads to Soap on a Stick

It was called cherry blossom, and what I have left will be reserved for single colour soap till I know better what I’m doing.

Complacency Leads to Soap on a Stick

Thanks! I’ve been using a spatula to start off when I add my lye (mostly out of fear of splashing) so hopefully I won’t have that exact issue, but knowing in advance that it can happen will be helpful. One thing… this is the first batch where I put the FO in with the oils, which I will NOT be...

Complacency Leads to Soap on a Stick

Interesting, thank you for sharing your experience. Can I just ask, how did you determine the spots were lye heavy? Is this something you did before or after the cure time, and is there any point me trying to work that out now rather than waiting four weeks or so?

Complacency Leads to Soap on a Stick

Good tip, thank you. My stick blender also thanks you.

Complacency Leads to Soap on a Stick

I’ll definitely check, thank you. Hopefully it’s okay because I’d reached emulsion before splitting it off into jugs with the micas in. Fingers firmly crossed.

"Smoking after bleach" smell in soap

I just used neem oil for the first time and I’m sorry but you were lowballing it. All my housemate heard the entire time I was making soap this evening was me muttering from the other room “Ugh, this stinks.” Indescribably bad.

    Hello From Watford, UK

My friend has been living in Croxley for a few months. I visit him often and it is the nicest most friendly place. It has a real little village feel about it but in a good way. The atmosphere in the Fox & Hounds is lovely, and yes I think we have visited ALL the pubs. Some great walks from there...

Complacency Leads to Soap on a Stick

Thank you! I have to admit that the only reason I didn’t bin it was because I was concerned about how to dispose of it safely.

Complacency Leads to Soap on a Stick

It’s lumpy and bumpy and craggy looking but it could’ve been worse. No swirls as planned but I don’t hate it.

Complacency Leads to Soap on a Stick

“I got this soap making malarkey.” I told myself. And then it happened. A plug of “soap” so hard in my stick blender that I wasn’t sure I’d be able to get it out. I didn’t even break out into the expected (from me at least) colourful swears, to be heard across the land, because I was so stunned...

    Single Oil Soap Test

What a fun experiment, thank you for sharing. I did have to chuckle at this part of your review.

Thank you 😊 Small world, that’s the Dunelm I used to have to go to until I was blessed/cursed with my own.

    Reverse Engineering Bar Soap

I’m as dumb as a post. That never occurred to me. I also have a couple sheets of acrylic/perspex in my craft supplies. Thank you!

    Reverse Engineering Bar Soap

This is try number two, and looking much better. I used the 33% lye concentration as recommend by @KiwiMoose And yes, I keep uncovering it to peek, which I probably shouldn’t do, but I absolutely can’t help myself, soda ash or no.
