What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

I have the one from DIY on Etsy, but I didn't have any of the ingredients on hand as she uses different ones from the other recipes I have from her. I had never heard of Nest Soapery so was surprised to see the video. There are enough other ingredients in her recipe that it appears like it would...

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

I'll check back in after a few washes. I will admit that even though my hair is fine and on the thin side, it seems to be impervious to just about anything I put on it. I rarely use a conditioner on my hair and when I was younger needed to wash it daily due to an excess of oils. Now that I'm...

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

I used the "bar" (which is a round cylinder) on my hair this morning. After the initial wetting of the bar it felt almost slimy. It was hard to hold, so plan on putting it in one of my organza bags for the next use. Once it got lathered up on my hair, it was very sudsy with a smooth feel to the...

    Syndopour shampoo syndet base testing

Actually, I need to thank you for testing this out. I did not know of the product, although when I was using Melt and Pour soap, it was with Stephenson's. I'm hoping this works for her. It will be easy to gift her with the base and a mold or two and let her do her own shampoo as she needs it...

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

I just made this recipe a few days ago. Mine came out way softer than what she showed, too. If I had known I would not have tried mixing with gloves. It was a mess trying to get the mixture off of the gloves, so that I could do something with it. LOL I thought I measured everything correctly and...

    Syndopour shampoo syndet base testing

I'm sorry but forgot to get my thermometer out ...I melted in the microwave in short spurts of one minute or so as I was afraid to get it too hot. When the last of the syndopour melted I poured it into the mold. I put the mold in the refrigerator for 24 hours(it's been over 100 here for the...

    Syndopour shampoo syndet base testing

I jumped in an bought some Syndopour. I was ready to try a new pourable recipe but the ingredients cost over $70, so decided the Syndopour was a better deal even with the high shipping. I'm just doing no color or scent since it is mainly for my daughter and how it gets along with her cochlear...

    Palm Oil Substitute

I'm a lardy lady. Found out several years ago that olive oil doesn't get along with me in soap. Plus I love the fact that I can go to the grocery store and buy my main oil. I sort of did a test a few years back to see if I could notice a difference in recipes with palm oil, lard and the crisco...

    A big failure part two!

The first time I added color to my soaps, I did it at the request of my grandson. Red! He got red soap...and red soap bubbles, and soap scum, and soap drips down the shower wall, and it was hard to get the red out of his wash cloths (finally bought him a couple of red cloths so it wasn't so...

    I'm a noob.

I have little need for lotion bars now that I am using my own soap. Whenever I do handquilting or applique my fingers get pricked until they feel like they are bleeding, even though they are not. I keep a little tin of Bag Balm to rub into my fingertips at night. That's all I've ever used.

    I'm a noob.

I used to buy Stephenson's melt and pour before I learn how to make my own soap! Never thought of them going to syndapour. I will check them out. Especially since I haven't ordered the new ingredients yet. As you can tell, I am way behind a lot of the forum's threads, as I missed this totally...

    I'm a noob.

Welcome. I'm retired and my other hobby is quilting. Hobbies do not save money. But in my case soaping has given my old skin a new life where I don't have to slather on tons of lotion or conditioners or other things. And it all sits in a corner of my quilting room so I get to enjoy both hobbies...

    Gloppy rice flour

I sure looks beautiful. I hope you love it as much as I do.

    Gloppy rice flour

The portion of water that I use to dissolve the lye is from rinsing the rice, not cooking it. My notes say that I used 75% of the water from the rinse and 25% with the slurry. I used 1/4 cup of rice with 1/2 cup or more of distilled water. Cooked that until the rice was very mushy, then drained...

Basic trinity of oils starter formula

I'm not sure exactly how old I was when I started soaping, but definitely in my 60's. I made soap with a friend who gave me her recipes. I couldn't understand recipes that used percentages at all. Then at some point I found this site and ventured into using the soap calculator. The very first...

Whats a good way to add hardness without changing your oils/butters?

I've used sodium lactate, salt and bees wax for a harder bar. Then I found out that what I really wanted was a bar that lasted longer, not just harder (as in faster out of the mold and can cut earlier). All three cut the lather to some degree. When I found out what I wanted was longevity, I...

Whats the best way to store soaps for drying??

I live in high desert country. Very hot in the summer...over 100F in about half of the days. Humidity is low. I have only had one bar of soap to get DOS and it fell off a shelf in the bathroom cabinet and was hidden for a couple years. It was probably the most humid place in the house. My...

Ivory Soap and Restless Leg Syndrome

Boy howdy! My cramps would bring me out of bed and the need to walk them off after I found the strength to stand on my legs. You are wide awake for sure. I'm satisfied with my pickles at the moment, but if ever they stop working I'll keep the mustard in mind. But so far, knock wood, a couple...

Ivory Soap and Restless Leg Syndrome

I don't know which would be worse...the teaspoons of mustard or a shot or two of pickle juice! LOL At least I like dill pickles AND they don't set my teeth on edge like the juice does. But until I found the pickle "cure" I was ready to try just about anything to get rid of the cramps I was...

Ivory Soap and Restless Leg Syndrome

I found that a dill pickle spear...or a small whole pickle...eaten with supper or sometime before bed will prevent my leg cramps. I tried the pickle juice but just couldn't hack it. The taste was bad enough going down, but then it made my teeth feel just like I had scraped my fingernails along...
