Can anyone tell me if this shampoo bar has been made using lye?

Its a commercial brand. I tried solid bars before but they were basically soap and destroyed my hair. I’m no quitter! But I am confused. Can anyone take a look at this list of ingredients and know if it’s been made with lye? INGREDIENTS SODIUM COCOYL ISETHIONATE • HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL •...

    Calendula petal colour differences?

I bought half a dozen calendula plants this spring in the hopes of harvesting the petals to try and colour soap naturally and they have surpassed what I hoped for. It’s awesome and they’re gorgeous. I have both orange and yellow petals and my question is do they colour the soap the colour of...

Super fast trace, Not sure why?

Yeah May have to hand whisk this one. Was hoping to try a basic swirl or something but pretty much had to spread the batter into the mould 😂. its great though I’m learning loads through playing. I mean it looks ”rustic“ as hell but its still soap. DH loves the fragrance so I may have trouble...

    A question of mica

Before I dip a toe into the colourful world of mica - I’ve been watching the soap queen and I feel patterns are in my future- I would like advice on how much mica in approx 1kg soap -2lb ish- and roughly how much I would expect to pay for some decent ones. I am in the UK but just ball park...

    Natural Calendula Petals Soap

I know calendula and marigold are not the same flower but within the same family, so has anyone tried to use marigold petals for natural colour? Or is it purely calendula which you can effectively use?

What does lemon juice add to the soap please? Also is the dried parsley for colour or exfoliation?

Honey turned my soap this colour!!!

Think Im going to ditch these. My OH says maybe they’ll improve with time and I could wait and see, they’re not taking up lots of space. I’m going to make more on Thursday without honey and see what happens. I’ll use regular sugar and only make one bar. I’m at a loss to understand why the first...

    Shampoo bar questions?

You may be one of the lucky few. I used a bar shampoo for about 2 hrs and I was so impressed I used it on my son’s hair too. This yr I noticed both our hair was breaking easily and has become uneven. Since stopping and changing back to liquid shampoo this has stopped, but it still has to grow...

Honey turned my soap this colour!!!

My soap unmolded easily after two days and was uniform in colour and smelled rally nice. Today, the following day, it’s becoming patchy and uneven with darker splotches and I detect almost a scorched smell. I appreciate it’s got ages to cure yet but I don’t recall this happening this last time I...

Looking for a reputable uk fragrance oil seller, any recommendations?

I’ve been using essential oils for my soaps as I make only for my family, so cost per bar (within reason) isn’t an Issue. I‘ve seen fragrance oils on Amazon but it’s a minefield. I don’t know who’s good to buy from. EO’s I’ve been getting from Holland & Barrett so you’re kinda safe there. But it...

Honey turned my soap this colour!!!

Thank you. That’s interesting info. I was adding sugar to boost lather but perhaps I’ll save colours for a veggie recipe which is using a bit of coconut oil. Be a shame to add colours to waste them after all and I’d rather not rely on hopefully I can use micas When I’m planning a batch. I’m...

Honey turned my soap this colour!!!

I understand this and last time on a smaller batch it did turn a light tan so I’m not shocked. I also know this will lighten as it hardens and dries out. What I’m wondering is do all sugars turn soap the same colour or will icing/powdered sugar have a different effect?

Honey turned my soap this colour!!!

I knew it would change colour a bit but this was a tad unexpected It’s a lard based recipe so I added honey to boost lather at the suggested amount on the lye calculator. I’m wondering if caster or powdered sugar would have the same result? Can anyone advise? Many thanks I mean I’m ok with it...
