How long have you been soaping? Or Happy Soap-A-Versary to me

About 4 weeks lol :) I’m including a pic of my first two attempts. Let’s just say that lye water is not enough heat to melt kokum and mango butters plus coconut oil. I had to heat up the lye/oil solution on the stove and it riced. The second one ended up with lots of chunks of kaolin clay...

    Anyone use hydrosols?

@AliOop Here is a link to the product. https://mokshaessentials.com/collections/hydrosol/products/neroli-hydrosol?variant=33191550289 It does say it is 5x concentrated compared to a typical hydrosol.

    Anyone use hydrosols?

MominWA The supplier is Moksha Essentials I did formula botanica’s free into class and Moksha was a recommended US supplier who had a premade kit for the class. 250 ml neroli hydrosol came with the kit (I needed 10 ml for the project, so I had this ultra scented orange water lying around and...

    Looking for a Coconut Scent

I used brambleberry’s natural coconut fragrance in candle making last night and it does get a lot better when heated but it is still very very light.

    Anyone use hydrosols?

Well I guess that is the big question - how long will the scent last. For now it is very strong. I’ll report back after 2 months. I was amazed that the scent survived saponification as well as it did, but survive it did. The hydrodol scent itself is very strong - like I can’t get the scent...

    Anyone use hydrosols?

I understand completely. I wanted to make soap but had no fragrance oil for soap so thought I’d try it to see what happened. My essential oil attempts were not sticking the fragrance and I had some neroli hydrosol that I didn’t know what to do with!

    Anyone use hydrosols?

I made soap last week with a hydrosol. I I froze the hydrosol and used it as water to make the lye. The scent came through. Because I didn’t measure the hydrodol first before freezing I had to make up the difference with distilled water.

    Recipe critique?

New recipe! My soap made last week was a lot softer than previous attempts so I tweaked the recipe. Although they are finally starting to harden today, almost a week later. I took out the olive oil and replaced with high oleic safflower oil and increased the lye concentration. Let me know...

    Looking for a Coconut Scent

I ordered several from branbleberry. Out of the bottle natural coconut milk (can’t use in soap anyway) and coconut cream are blach - not coconut smelling at all. Coconut citrus sorbet and coconut lime verbana are promising. I’m not sure how they’ll hold up, but they smell great out of the bottle.

What is Yoni soap? What makes a soap safe for the ****** ?

Just no, no, no, no, and again no. Nothing soap related should go inside the ******. I .. just .. why. Why would anyone do that?

    Recipe critique?

Thank you again for all the feedback! Re: Was your lye fresh and used soon after it was made? Possibly it has something to do with the orange goo you mentioned below. Yes, the lye solution was used within about 40 minutes of being mixed and the container of powdered lye granules is new as...

    Recipe critique?

Thank you so much for the heads up on grape seed oil! I read up on citric acid and other chelators. Is rancidity why people use high oleic safflower oil? I didn’t end up using the French clay and opted for seabuckthom oil instead. I added .1 ounce seabuckthom oil and .2 ounces sweet orange...

    Recipe critique?

Sorry didn’t see your response! Yes I used clay and the temp was around 110 F. I used Lavender EO. I agree that the butters were the main culprits for speeding up trace!

    Recipe critique?

Thank you! I went ahead and made the soap with safflower oil. I also used seabuktom oil to give an orange color to the soap. I split the batter into roughly half with seabuckthom oil/sweet orange essential oil added to one half of the batter. I added the seabuckkthom oil mixed with sweet...

    Recipe critique?

Please take a moment to critique my recipes. I’m new to this and trying to use new soap making ingredient (Walmart shortening) and left over oils from other projects. I’ve read so many how to posts that I can’t keep the oils straight anymore. Most of the recipe is straight forward olive oil...

    Solid oil massage bar ?

It’s because if the oils are poured into the mold before they are blended to a thick (dropped batter makes a clump on top of the surface instead of dropping back into the batter immediately) consistency- the bars won’t set up correctly. They’ll need to be remelted and poured again. The recipe...
