    Some of my latest soaps.

I'm hoping to try this technique soon. Your results are inspiring. Where did you get your mini mold? I, too, am drowning in soap since all the markets and fairs are canceled, so making smaller batches would probably be a good idea.

    Cut another soap today

Looks great. A pencil line is next on my list of things to try. Where did you get your mold? I like the size.

    Stick blenders...

I have this one. I find that creates a lot of suction. Even on low, it goes too fast and creates a lot of air bubbles in the soap even with burping. I have a Cuisinart which I love.

    Rice Bran Oil

I add my ROE to the jug/bottle when I first open it. Ive bought 2 gallons of Riceland from Amazon and both times the expiration date was about 6 months.

Taking too long to come to trace....and broke my stick blender

I like idea of the stainless steel spoon with slots. I tend to use my SB too much (I'm trying to cut back) and always end up with thicker batter than I really want.

    Well I am addicted

Yeah, when I tell people I make soap, they are mystified. Poor souls, if only they understood.........

    Heat transfer and sodium lactate.

Thanks, I'm going to check it out. Powder form may be a more economical choice from a shipping standpoint.

    Heat transfer and sodium lactate.

I was confused, too. But I googled powdered sodium lactate and found it. Never knew there was such a thing. I've always used liquid and never knew it was a 60% solution. (The great things we learn on this forum!) Since SL is such a small amount of a recipe, I guess (hope?) the 40% water in...

Sandalwood - anyone think it's worth the price?

Yes, this is a very confusing topic. I like soap with a lot of scent but I also want to be safe. The IFRA guidelines may not be perfect, or even accurate, but they are some sort of a guide for a substance that can be irritating to the skin. I assume that IFRA is basing the usage rate on the...

Shrink Wrappers, how do you provide samples at craft shows?

I clip the end off one corner of the shrink wrap bag (see top right of bag). When I shrink wrap, the clipped end becomes a smell hole for each bar, so I don't have to worry about sample bars.

    Cleaning Utensils after Soap Making

Thanks for the insights. I've had to get a plumber clean out my kitchen drain. He pulled a LOT of gunk out. I wasn't sure if it was soap related or food stuff related or a combination. Was probably a combination. If I have to get it cleaned again before too long, I'll know that it is soap...

    Cleaning Utensils after Soap Making

Do you wait till the oil/lye/FO soap batter residue has saponified before putting in the dishwasher with your plates/knives/forks? Should I not be concerned with fresh soap batter residue mixing with my eating utensils even though it's being washed off? Maybe I'm just being overly cautious...

    Cleaning Utensils after Soap Making

[QUOTE=.......... or toss in the dishwasher...no greasy residue. Do you run a separate dishwasher cycle for the soap items or do you put them in the same load as your eating/cooking items?

    Bulk Apothecary -

When I first started soaping I ordered from them but don't order from them much anymore. In the beginning I had to email them for the usage rates, which I did not like. Plus, they did not always respond promptly. Now they have usage rates on the page with the descriptions, but I want to see...

Uncovered lye solution; does it degrade?

The science has been interesting (and is over my head), but what I'm really interested in is the impact of degraded lye solution on my batch of soap. I assume that by the lye solution absorbing water, the soap will be softer, take longer to cure and will have more super fat. Is that correct?

    Stickers for Round Soap

I put the label on the soap and then shrink wrap. The Avery labels have adhesive on them and they stick and stay in place just fine. If you put an unwrapped soap in an organza bag the bag will get all messed up.

    Woot! New 'Photo Studio' pics.

The soaps are lovely and the black background really makes them pop! I'm going to have to try that. I made a light box for myself to improve my pictures, but they are still not great. The black might make a difference.
