Best simple cold process soap design technique for a first time artesian soap maker?

The reviews for cold process soap are not good. They say the colors don't hold up and that they stain.

    I've got a secret!

I would say: it depends on the dogs, and it depends on the children 😂

Best simple cold process soap design technique for a first time artesian soap maker?

Yeah, OPW looks easy, but is deceivingly hard. I've been soaping since 2018 and have only done one OPW that I liked the end result. To be fair I've only attempted like 3 or 4 so it's not so bad, but I'm familiar with how CP and my recipe and my FOs behave. A regular drop swirl is fairly easy...

    Coronavirus

I got my booster on Tuesday and my arm is still sore! Otherwise I am feeling well. My 5 year olds will get their first vaccine right before the new year...but with them in daycare I'm just hoping they don't get sick before they are able to get the vaccine.

    Picking a Font

For your name, 2 and 6. Leaning more towards 2, but it is harder to read. I use #5 myself and have worked that into my logo, but I don't like it for your name. It doesn't scream mid-century to me. If you could find a sparkle font or put some retro sparkle into one of these I think it might be...

    Eleven color OPW

Absolutely amazing! 11 colors and it looks like it behaved beautifully for you. Gorgeous!

Trial by Fire red mica line?

You should always thoroughly test your recipes before selling them. So if you're concerned about lather staining, get a white washcloth and test it. I wouldn't say customers are worried about the lather color but if it stains they naturally will be upset.

I notice some space on the left there...I wonder if filled, would the weight would cause the liner to expand to the right size?

    Recent FO trials

I figured it had to be HP. When I had ordered the fragrance the description didn't mention acceleration (or I didn't notice), nor did the reviews but when I went to double check after I had my disaster, sure enough it said severe acceleration!

Very merry Cranberry is a definite winner! I mix it with an orange and clove fragrance for my cranberry orange and it is a best seller for me! Lavender Chamomile is very Chamomile forward. I can barely smell the lavender in it, but it's a good seller as well. I'm surprised you got olive to...

    Post your Gripe

My husband is so stubborn (and I love him...but I am so frustrated with him right now)! I got my van stuck in the mud. I misjudged how solid the ground was. I unfortunately do this often (I'm overconfident because I used to drive a Jeep). Anyway, we have free towing service but he doesn't want...

    Weirdly Great Show

My velcro sandbag weights I'm using right now are kind of an eyesore...I plan on getting some canister weights for next year. They do weigh a fair bit more than the sandbag weights so that's a plus.

I did not confess why our dishwasher broke

I soak my stainless stove fan filters in a lye solution to help clean them. I like the idea better than the aerosolized lye sprays that they advertise for the same purpose. I stir fry a lot, so they get greasy fast and they most definitely make a layer of soap on the grates when they soak. For...

    Emu and jojoba

A week in and the smell is bearable so I’m pleased. There is absolutely no lather yet, but we will see with time how that changes. (I’m not using it yet, just testing the lather by the week). As this is for my face, I don’t mind it having low/no bubbles.

I'm interested in local sources of fats/oils

I don't really think a farm would be the right choice, they often send their animals away to be killed...a butcher would more likely have the dead animal...and it's fat. You could look into local hunting groups as well. (Sorry I keep editing) To buy the fat from their hunt I mean...not...

Soap Dough Gurus Here ~ Black Soap Dough

You are gelling your soap dough? Don't you find it is really hard to work with if it gels? Also, I agree about the black oxide. Even in my regular AC soaps I use Black Oxide to get it the right black.

    Oh no! Avocado Oil

I'm hoping if you buy from a oil supplier that it would be true avocado. I get mine at SC.

    Learned something new last night.

I've gotten distracted and made this mistake before...but luckily I didn't pour it into my oils. Thought I was already to make a batch and then I saw the disc at the bottom so it was back to the start with the lye solution (which isn't so bad I guess, but I'm impatient). That gnome is too cute!
