    VineVida essential oils?

@Zany_in_CO , have you ordered any essential oils from Sun Pure lately? I just had to file a credit card dispute for an order that I placed on July 28th that I never received. I emailed and called and received NO response at all. I'm sad, because I really like their oils, but it doesn't really...

August 2021 SMF Soap Challenge - Ombre Designs

Just got back from a hockey weekend with my son. I love everyone's entries! I'm glad I submitted mine early, otherwise I might have chickened out and not submitted it! I had planned on doing at least one other attempt, but I'm just not going to get a chance. I will continue to play with ombre...

Entry Thread for the SMF August 2021 Challenge - Ombre Designs

Here’s mine! It thickened up more than I hoped at the end. I’m calling it Terra Wave. Kinda looks like the ocean with a green sun 😅. Colored with spirulina and indigo with spearmint, peppermint and lime essential oils.

    Masculine Fall Scent

Ooh, I'm going to try this. What percentage do you use? I tend to go up to 5% if I can. I like an orange, bay rum, bergamot, lime blend, for a fall/spicy/manly scent (essential oils)

August 2021 SMF Soap Challenge - Ombre Designs

Welp, definitely not going to have a chance to do a second attempt (school starting, hockey starting, etc., etc.), so first one is going to have to be it! I like it, but I don't love it. It didn't quite turn out the way I had envisioned.

I just cut my first attempt. I'm not sure that I'll have a chance to make another, so it may have to do!

August 2021 SMF Soap Challenge - Ombre Designs

You are persistent! I might try 2 times, and if I don't succeed by then, forget it! I had an idea for a design all mapped out in my mind, and then when it came down to it I changed it at the last minute. I don't think the batter would have stayed fluid long enough for my first idea, so I...

What soapy thing have you done today?

My first attempt at this month's challenge is all wrapped up and (hopefully) gelling away! My batter thickened up more than I would have liked toward the end, but we will see how it turns out!

August 2021 SMF Soap Challenge - Ombre Designs

I got my indigo, so I will be making my first attempt tonight I think. I'm going to do it backwards from how I've done it in the past: I'm going to start with the darkest color, because I want it at the bottom, and then gradually add the uncolored batter to the colored batter. The hardest part I...

What would you call these display boxes?

    Looks like plywood to me.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I haven’t been doing anything soapy, but I have been thinking a lot about what I want to do for the challenge, and I ordered some indigo. I’m really not artistic, and I mostly prefer to make simple soaps, so this is stretching my brain! 😄

    petitegrain EO vs bergamot EO

Here’s another vote for litsea! I also make a lemongrass/lime soap and that combo seems to stick pretty well.

A Crisis of Quality - EO or FO?

I only use EOs. It's totally my personal preference, and I certainly don't expect everyone else to follow suit. For now I am trying to use all natural ingredients in my soap, and no palm oil. Again, personal preference. I do believe that there is a market for these types of soap, especially...

    Coffee Soap Scenting

I make a coffee soap and I use brewed coffee as a full water replacement, along with some microgrind instant coffee into the batter at trace. I scent mine with orange essential oil. I've heard of others using mint or clove or something that goes along with coffee. As far as getting a coffee...

    Shea Butter or Cocoa Butter?

I use both. Cocoa butter at 12% and shea butter at 18%. I don't use any palm oil.

    Flint in hot process

I'm also curious why you would want flint, or any other sort of sandy mineral in soap. You would have to totally pulverize it in order for it not to be incredibly scratchy. How are you grinding it?

What soapy thing have you done today?

I use tap water. We are on a well and have a whole house filter that filters out sediment and metals.
