    Prices

I just created a spreadsheet so I know exactly how much each bar of soap costs me to make. I would say at the very minimum, you should be doubling your costs, and if you actually want to make more than just what covers your costs, double that again for retail. I just started selling, and I...

Adding clays and colorants to lye before mixing with base oils

When I’m using clays I add them to my EOs. I don’t know if it anchors the scent or not, but I just find it easy to do it that way.

    My honey is sticky

I have heard of drizzling a melt and pour "honey" over CP soap, or even glycerin, but never real honey. I imagine it will just stay sticky, as there is nothing to cause it to harden.

    Longest lasting EOs

I do use bergamot in a couple of blends—one is with bay rum (or clove-whichever I have,) lime, litsea and orange. The other is with cedarwood

    Longest lasting EOs

I don't have holes in my boxes, but am thinking I might punch some. I live in a VERY dry climate (Colorado @9000ft) so the humidity is always very low. I use parchment paper at the bottom of the boxes.

That's a good idea, @Zing Do you punch any holes in your boxes? I store my cured soaps in cardboard boxes too.

    Zingiberaceae

Orange essential oil. I use the turmeric for the orange color. I also use a little litsea essential oil. It's lovely, but definitely subtle.

    Zingiberaceae

I make an orange ginger turmeric soap with ginger EO, and I find the scent to be the more mellow cooked scent than the zingy (ahem) raw scent. It is pretty mild and subtle.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I'm finally over my soap burn-out and made 4 batches this week. I'm out of several kinds of soaps, and almost out of a couple of others, so I thought I would re-stock. I also created a costing spread sheet for my soap to see how much it actually costs me to make! I can't believe how much some of...

    Rosehips

Currently infusing some rose hips from my garden in olive oil. Was thinking of using it for a geranium/rosewood/petitgrain soap next spring.

I did not confess why our dishwasher broke

I must admit, I am envious (not of you clogging up your dishwasher, but of having a husband with handyman skills:D) If I clogged up the dishwasher, I would be the one fixing it.

It's not all that it's cracked up to be.

Wow! It's $10 a year in Colorado to register your LLC! I work for an attorney who serves as a registered agent for LLCs and in addition to the $10, we charge about $8 more to file the periodic report. $450 is insane!

It's not all that it's cracked up to be.

I'm sorry you are having such a rough time, but good for you to take a step back to see if it is really something you want to do. I make soap because I love doing it, I like having my own handmade products to use, and I enjoy giving my soap away as gifts to friends and family. I do sell a little...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I thought it would be one you would like @Zing ! Here it is from eocalc: Under The Stars » EO Calc - Essential Oil Calculator The vetiver is very earthy and deep, and the clary sage is green, herbaceous, bright. I know it's used as a green tea scent. The whole blend is very "planty" It really...

Help with CP soap and acceleration

I have a recipe that is shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil and olive oil and it traces really slowly! It's definitely possible to create a recipe that traces slowly without any animal fats or palm. There are also essential oils that slow down trace as well.
