How to get Palm-free & Vegan Conditioning Bubbles? - Please Critique

Maybe I should start a new thread, or if it's been addressed here (but I can't find it) - I'm confused about SAP values. I know what a SAP value is, in a non-specialist way. I thought they were indicated in percentages. Yet when I look up castor wax it's given in a number (180 or so).

I learned about this wax as a result of an exchange between you and someone else, here (I think his name was Andrew but I can't find it). I thought, "wow, interesting."

Is a high melt point a danger, or just a bother? Finally found a data sheet, but still no lipid profile.

I just learned of a new item (new to me, that is, not to soaping): Castor Wax, or hydrogenated castor oil. It's readily available and not expensive. But it isn't on Soap Calc, or Soapee. Might this not kill two birds with one stone (hardness and lather stability) or is it a whole different...

    Waxes in soap

This is an old thread... hope someone answers - did anyone ever use castor wax? I'm intrigued by this. It's readily available and not expensive for a small experimental bag, but it's not on Soapcalc. There have been mentions of it here, but the threads trail off. Can one figure out how to use...

Seems to me that castor oil is great for shaving soap bars, but not necessary in regular bars. You don't really create a lather with a regular soap and go, "I need to wait for this to stabilize," you just wash your hands. I am a huge fan of bubbly lather. I put that quality above all else in...

You're right that this is the most common line of thinking, but Carolyn @cmzaha isn't being contrarian on this point; she's just being accurate. I meant "contrarian" in this sense, and wasn't trying to fuffle* feathers: con·trar·i·an /kənˈtre(ə)rēən/ Learn to pronounce noun a person who...

    Differences Among High Oleic Oils

Just as an example (suggested by Mobjack Bay) I did the following on Soapcalc. (Note: this is just for comparison. I don't intend to make a two-oil soap. I wanted to see how the three HO oils interacted with one commonly used oil.) 50/50 (Coconut Oil/HO Sunflower) and got this: Lauric 24...

    Differences Among High Oleic Oils

Cost is important, but I was really more curious about how they behave differently in soapmaking, if at all. I'm interested in this because I want an alternative to OO but in my area for whatever reason HO safflower oil is much easier to get that HO sunflower oil, but I gather that the latter is...

    Differences Among High Oleic Oils

I've counted three that are used in artisan soapmaking: Sunflower, Safflower, & Canola. Do they behave radically differently in soapmaking?

Interesting contrarian take - I've always read that castor oil does add lather. As someone who is always sympathetic to contrarianism, and who wants to simplify recipes, I'm intrigued. LOL, I have a bag of SC as an experiment with the cheese sauce. It was fun but I love me good old flour-based...

What soapy thing have you done today?

My silicon mold & shell soaps. I've sent away for some micas because I think the natural color on these is dull and also for the "chocolate chip cookie" because I don't yet have micas I used cacao powder & cornstarch but those washed away, so it now looks like an unbaked chocolate chip cookie.

Thanks! I'll remember that for next time. I'll try it though. Better streaky than this meh color.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made a mold from a shell and 2 part silicone mold for soap dough & two experimental soaps. Success! Except for the dull yellowish neutral soap color which looks fine in bars but this novelty needs a color. Can you put mica powder into already-made soap dough? I'd have colored beforehand but...

    Optical illusions

What an amazing coincidence - I just discovered soap dough, I mean, the concept. I thought that my soap dough turned to soap but I checked and it is pliable. Can you add colors to soap dough? Mine was an experiment so it's the a creamy off-white color.

HP Questions - small batch OPHP

Interesting. I tried this (see the thread here) and got a couple of fails. Perhaps I should have just left the stuff, but I kept fiddling, so resorted to stove-top hot process. What were your oil/lye temps before mixing?
