    Confetti Soap

When you use old soap for confetti it has already lost part of its water weight. When mixed in with a new batch the new will lose water as it cures and the confetti won't. After curing the confetti will be slightly raised on the surface on the soap. There is nothing wrong with the soap...

    Curiosity about Scent Works formulas

IFRA changes as well as removal of Phthalates have changed most fragrances. Even if TSW was still around I doubt if those old fragrances would be the same. They were nice though and I purchased a lot as well.

Getting Bergamot EO, 10x Orange EO, and Grapefruit EO to stick in CP

you didn't comment about lime. I like the Key Lime EO from New Directions Aromatics. To me, Key lime isn't as sweet as regular lime but it sticks really well. Do you think your soaps get too hot in gelling? I make a "shelf" from a couple of mold lids and set the log on the lids once I see...

Majestic Mountain Sage FOs - worth it?

I have used MMS for years. I like them and they have some great fragrances. I currently use the Tassi Lavender, and Gardenia but have used plenty of others. I don't think they are perfect and I have tested some of their fragrances that didn't last as long as I thought they should for the price...

What is the best fragrance oil ever?

Fragrance trends tend to come and go. Over the last 20 years I would say Oatmeal, Milk, and Honey. It was popular for a very long time. At one time it was 1/3 of what I sold. Also, Black Raspberry Vanilla. Both may be sweeter than today's trends but still great fragrances and lasted a long...

    Do you provide shopping bags?

Although I use kraft bags for sales from my home I use plastic T-shirt bags at fairs. T-shirt bags are so much cheaper and they don't take up a lot of space at a fair or in packing. They aren't as nice looking but they are practical. I hang them on the back of my table with a large safety pin...

    The hard bar

How long do you cure out your bars? Although a 6 week old bar is fine for use I find that my bars will be a lot harder (and nicer) at 4 to 6 months. Just increasing the time before use might be all you need to get the hardness he would like.

    Struggling with FO Purchases

I think it is a lot easier to pick sweet fragrances or woody fragrances. Deep florals are difficult, and probably the definition differs between people. Consider becoming more familiar with fragrance notes in commercial products, such as Bath and body works and how they are described. It...

Crown Soap, Ben Franklin’s Family Recipe

Have you read Book of Ages: The life and opinion of Jane Franklin? It is a good nonfiction book with letters between Jane and Ben as well as comparison of Ben's biography to Janes Bible with births and deaths of children and family. There are definite references to making the soap. My...

Lotion Bar - coconut NOT greasy??

I agree that Susan Swifts recommendations are spot on. Cutting part of the shea for mango really to reduce greasiness.

    Now don't yell...

If that is as dark as it gets I would consider it a "white" vanilla since most of the time I have dark brown soaps with vanilla. If the fragrance is old then maybe it has morphed and now the discoloration is worse. I used to have a lilac that would discolor when the fragrance was a couple of...

    Coconut that sticks in CP

I use Creamy coconut from OT. It is sweet, more like the sack of sweetened baking coconut. It is light-medium strength but it really isn't there when first made. It takes a month or so to be noticeable and it is very nice at 4-5 months. If you give it time then it is a good strength for a...

    Confetti Soap

Personally, I would start with about 20 % of your batter with confetti and see how you like it. I sometimes spritz and then add the confetti to the oils and SB. I like the effect but I have to be careful or the moist confetti will thicken the batter enough that I have a hard time time making...

Nobody wants to try shampoo bars unless they're free...

I'm a little late in response but I used to order shampoo bars from get lathered. I love her products. When I started I used both shampoo and conditioning bars. I purchased the first time to see if I wanted to make them. I quickly decided hers were great and they lasted so long I would just...

HELP! Need a fragrance suggestions for CP soap

My favorite new fragrance in 2021 was WSP's Waterlily & Bluebell; a nice blend of a water scent and a soft floral; strong at 6 months; slight fading at 9 months. I also finally soaped OT's German Chamomile Tea and wondered why I had waited so long. A nice light grassy scent. So far, the...

2022 (too soon?) Soap Making Goals.

Gecko, I love the idea of the washcloths and sacks. I always donate to DV shelters but this year I had a seize on a more masculine soap and a couple of tests on masculine fragrances I didn't like. I think I will use your idea on those. Cutting in half also sounds good. I really like...

    tips for lip balm tubes?

I had never had a problem with tubes fitting in the holder until this year. I had always considered various suppliers interchangeable. Something has changed, maybe manufacturers with different specifications. I had a package of tubes too small for the caps and too small for the stand. I...

Do people use lotion bars on the face?

I think of lotion bars as a barrier and protectant product because of the beeswax. So, protection against constant water as well as cold and wind is when I want to use them. I wouldn't need or want a lotion bar on my face inside inside my house but if I worked outside in the winter I probably...

    Prices

Over the years I have had several customers purchase for an office for small Christmas gifts. The nicest part is that I usually hear from a few. Selling 30-35 bars to one person is a good way to get your name out because there will be lots of people who use your soap.

    Mint condition

I love mint soaps of all kinds and have always used peppermint, spearmint and recently cornmint. I am a little stunned at how low the spearmint level is under IFRA-49 and really haven't decided what/how I will change in the future. I have always been more concerned with Peppermint because of...
