    Transporting soap

I use the single style box for storage. I add a stick-on pocket for a business card on the outside to add a scent name label.

Can anyone explain the "Superfat % should be 1/2 of the Cleansing number" rule?

I agree that a rule for cleansing and superfat sounds made up and wouldn't guarantee good results. However, I guess I have always believed you can offset some of the harshness of a high cleansing number with a higher superfat. Isn't that a reason for a high superfat on a 100% cococnut oil...

What happened here? Too hot? Too much frag oil?

When did you purchase this fragrance oil? It was reformulated March 2023. Any chance this is your first batch with the new formulation?

    Help with Mica

Easy and ensures that color is distributed well without any extra effort on your part. Adding at trace is fine but you need to stir or stick blend to make sure incorporated well.

    Spearmint EO experiences

The not recommended is because of the IFRA49 limits. The limits under IFRA48 when this thread was active were much higher. If you use eocal.com for your blends you will see that even 5g of spearmint in a 1447g oil batch shows higher than the current IFRA limits on spearmint EO. Like you I...

Is it important that oil & lye/water temps be within 10 degrees when blending?

Lots of temps and ranges can be used. However, there are a lot of variables that can change the way your soap batter traces and thickens (temps, fragrance, water amount, recipe). I think keeping the temps within 10 degrees and keeping the temps close to the same for each batch helps with...

Karma (Lush Type) FO - Patchouli haters read this.

I mostly use FO's but I have never tried a Patchouli heavy FO that I thought was 10% as good as patchouli EO. It is one of the few EO's that I won't give up. I would hate to waste good patchouli but I might consider half Karma FO with half of your EO blend; won't be as good as your blend but...

    Brambleberry FO labels

They aren't the only one; I have problems with WSP as well. Sad to say the first thing I do with new fragrances is to put a piece of masking tape around the bottle and write the name, weight, purchase date, IFRA in permanent marker. I sometimes wonder if supplier's saw how amateur their...

What is your favorite mint EO blend?

I like 60% Rosemary, 40% mint but I want the mint to be very noticeable.

What is your favorite mint EO blend?

IFRA rules on mints just seem crazy to me. For years I soaped spearmint at 3%. I always blended it with peppermint so that I reduced the "tingle" peppermint causes. I considered peppermint the one to use lightly since the tingle can be painful to many. Never an issue with spearmint. I...

What is your favorite mint EO blend?

I hadn't looked it up. Still, I think that is strong enough. The main blend I use it in is still less than 1%.

What is your favorite mint EO blend?

What proportion do you use? I like anise but like it best when it isn't so strong that customers instantly recognize it.

What is your favorite mint EO blend?

    lemongrass, cedar, peppermint

spring '24 goats milk lemon soap

Consider reducing your goatmilk as well to 15 oz (33% lye solution). Extra milk will cause the soap to be softer longer and it can cause overheating issues.

Feedback for first batch of cold process

I agree that your soap looks great for a 3rd batch. The actual making of soap from the lye/milk/water going into the oils until the time the batter goes into the mold isn't very long. Forgetting something is very common when you are working quickly and it hasn't become rote. Consider a...

How do you choose your color palettes?

I think color ideas are easier for some than others. I also know that I get better with practice. Since art is always my challenge, I just look at a lot of photos. It helps me realize what color patterns I like as well as well as don't. Most important I see contrasts I would have never...

    WSP 25% off fragrances sale

I don't think there are exact dates for their all-fragrances sales. There is one some time near the end of the year between Nov-Jan. That is the one I normally have my purchase list ready so I don't remember if the other is a set date. Last year there was a 25% off CC scents in September one...

    WSP 25% off fragrances sale

Today my favorite WSP fragrance is Waterlily & blue bells, a clean floral that sticks well. Others I restocked were Tobacco Leaf & Amber, Moonflower and Amazing Style (a pain to soap; but scent sticks forever and good dupe).

    Brambleberry

Thanks for the input. I need a couple of sweeter fragrances for the year and may test the Watermelon Sugar and/or the Coconut Citrus Sorbet. I think I soaped the Vetyver years ago hoping it would work to replace the SW Full Moon. It probably isn't what I need this year. I am always looking...

    Brambleberry

I spent some time on the BB site and see that they have finally reformulated a lot of fragrances for IFRA49. I always loved their OMH and their Lilac and they now have IFRA's over 5%, as well as Cedar and Safron and Cherry Almond. So, has anyone tried any of the reformulations? Some have...
