Fragrance Buddy- anything I just *have* to get?

Help me out here! I'm getting sucked into the vortex...you all know what I mean. Don't need--Must have--Don't need--Must have, etc. Please explain why these fragrances cost about half as much as Wholesale Supplies Plus. For example, Monkey farts is double the price at WSP and they recommend...

Please check my notes on additives

@The Efficacious Gentleman, so is the citric acid increased by 60%? That's the amount of extra lye called for in most examples. If that is the case, multiply 1.25% citric acid by a factor of 1.6 to get 2% citrate. Does 1.25% citric acid equal 2% citrate in the soap solution? I have hung around...

Please check my notes on additives

Thanks for following up @The Efficacious Gentleman. This list is not scientific. I see you understand the chemistry better than I do. It is a list of collected information offered up by other soapmakers that have had success with these amounts. Maybe the larger amount of citric acid used...

Please check my notes on additives

Aha! Thanks @The Efficacious Gentleman (love that name). I combed through my notes and see soapers that I have come to respect are actually using 1.5% sodium citrate or 2% citric acid. I get the names mixed in my head. Thanks for pointing that out. I will go up and correct that on my original...

Please check my notes on additives

For a year now I have been making notes and collecting wisdom from web sites, books and mostly this forum (thanks everyone). So today I decided to condense and simplify all my handwritten notes onto one page. I plan on laminating it and keeping it handy when I soap. Please, especially check my...

At it again, experimenting on cactus juice.

I'm still a newbie but I have succeeded in making a good plain bar of soap. Still can't do anything fancy but have developed my basic bar to my satisfaction. I get fancy with the wrapping because I enjoy dressing up the soaps, it's very relaxing.

At it again, experimenting on cactus juice.

Hi Belen, yes it has been a long time coming for the update. My goodness, almost a year! I got into so many experiments last year that I lost track of this one. The result is that the cactus fruit pulp made excellent soap. It was thick and luxurious and bubbly. I really loved it. I still have...

    Another New House Update

Wishing you good luck with your new house. PS I have been wondering if your runaway lizard came home? Maybe he did, I just haven't been able to keep up with the forum lately.

    Felt Soaps

I bought a felted soap from another soaper just to try. The sensation of it grated on my nerves, something about the feel of the wool make me cringe. I decided to toss it out, but first I cut it open to see what was inside...guess what? Store bought soap!

Can fragrance be replenished in cured soap? Yes but...

Thanks for that tip @Zing. I take it this helps keep the scent in the soap...like block its escape because the box already has lots of scent in the air around the soaps. I will try that with my FO soaps. :nodding:

Can fragrance be replenished in cured soap? Yes but...

Ahh! @TheGecko, rebatch. I was going to toss the dark one and try to scrape off the kitty from the other. It was just idle curiosity; you can tell I retired recently, LOL. But yes, I could scrape off the dark parts and rebatch, thanks. I hate waste.

Can fragrance be replenished in cured soap? Yes but...

I am disappointed that some fragrances are weak or disappear too soon--and the cost, phew $$$! I have been taking notes from the forum on what would work best for my next purchases. Thanks everyone. I'm grateful for all the help and support on this forum (especially when my beautiful lab died)...

    Let's Talk 'Fatty Acids'

The verdict is in! These soaps in my hot dry climate are well and truly cured to a crisp at 7 weeks. To get straight to the point, they are all lovely soaps and I will enjoy using each one. Yes, there is a difference between hight palmitic, equal amounts palmitic/stearic, and high stearic--but...

    Oils separated from batter, HELP!

How can I resist! Ok Molly and Maggie, I will stay.😍 Thanks @Zing. @Catscankim, good point, but they also turned into Kr@p. Total loss. I have learned a valuable lesson, won't do this again. Can't rush soapmaking

    Oils separated from batter, HELP!

A glass of wine and a good night's sleep, feeling better. Going to dust myself off and start again 🤣 Thanks everyone for your help and support. @Zany_in_CO I think I could fill that thread all by myself @dmcgee5034 I made a fool of myself but my doggy doesn't care, he still loves me with all...
