    linseed oil soap

I am interested in the linseed oil soap. When I added a little linseed oil to one soap, I got a soap that I really like. That's why I was looking for inspiration for linseed oil soaps. I was surprised to find almost nothing. I think it's because the linseed oil soap has a short shelf life? Is it...

A few questions from a budding soap maker

Oh, thanks for the info, I just got the soap in the little molds so I'll try that and leave them in there longer... Admittedly, I'm curious about the soap and took them out early...

A few questions from a budding soap maker

@KiwiMoose, @QuasiQuadrant Thank you very much for your time and advice 1)Ok, I won't be using this mold to make soap anymore 2) The soap was made on 13.11.2023, so I'll wait... 3)I also used lard from a different manufacturer, the consistency seemed more stiff compared to the lard I used...

A few questions from a budding soap maker

4)Why is the soap not smooth when cut? I use a slicer with a knife. Is wire better? Will my soaps be nicer if I invest in a better cutting tool?

A few questions from a budding soap maker

3)The soap breaks when cut. 4 doses ok, it happened on the last one. Same recipe, same amount of soap. Same time for demolding and cutting. The soap is 85% tallow. The only thing that was different was that I bought the lard elsewhere. Can tallow affect the crumbliness of the soap? I used...

A few questions from a budding soap maker

    2) I used turmeric for coloring. This is one dose of soap in different forms. Pink form, color normal. The soap from the white silicone mold developed a white coating, but only where the soap touched the silicone. What is it and how to prevent it? With another batch of uncolored soap...

A few questions from a budding soap maker

I made several soaps, some succeeded, some less so. I'd like to know why so that it can be better next time... 1) The mold colored my soap. I didn't take a picture of the soap, but it was red from the mold. I cut off the colored parts and cut up the soap to add to a future batch. Can I try...

    Zany's MIY Carrot Tissue Oil

Wow... Thanks for the interesting information. I am also interested in whether it is possible to preserve at least some of the beneficial properties of vegetables when making soap. That is, if it makes sense to use vegetables to make soap. I have a garden and grow my own vegetables and I am...

    My soap turned army green!

Thank you very much, I use spoons and teaspoons, but I just wanted to make sure if it means the same to you. I'm from Czech Republic 🙂

    My soap turned army green!

Please how big is a "spoon" for soap dyes. In many instructions, I find an amount of, for example, 1 teaspoon of green clay. Is it a teaspoon or a tablespoon? I ask because everything is too light for me and I can't figure out how to dose the dyes into my soap. Thank you :)

How much super fat, how do you decide?

Yes, this is also confirmed by my soap, which I made for washing clothes. I used 50% coconut oil and 50% lard and 0% superfat. What was my surprise when I tried to use it for washing dishes and found that I could not use it for this purpose because my dishes were still greasy after rinsing. I...

a day when things are going well

This morning, when I spilled things from my bag in the store while paying, the saleswoman laughed and said: the day starts well, it's best to get into bed and rest... :D After lunch I think I'll make soap....I mixed lye and water, weighed the oils and found I was missing some linseed oil. So I...

How much super fat, how do you decide?

Oh, I noticed that Susan Miller Cavitch uses about 30 percent coconut oil in her recipes. I use about 20 percent coconut oil. Basic oils coconut oil, lard, or olive oil. I have tried 6 percent and 10 percent super fat so far. I like it because it cares for the skin. I have a dry hand and...

How much super fat, how do you decide?

How much super fat, how do you decide? In The Soapmaker's Companion Susan Miller Cavitch writes that she used to use 20 percent and then 10 percent. Elsewhere, less than 5 percent is stated, some use 6 or 7 percent. I know it probably comes down to personal preference. But I wonder how you...

    Soapmaking Spreadsheet Recipe Tool

Thanks for this great tool, very good job. I appreciate you sharing this with the rest of us. I haven't used it yet, but I think this will save me a lot of time. I can see it being simple enough to be motivated to use it. I am alone with a small child and have very little time left for my soap...

    Haunted by lard/tallow

Maybe I thought lard soap was worse than others. But I tried it because I had a lot of high-quality lard at home. And I am a person who likes to use what I have available and at home. And I found out how wonderful this soap is... The doctors advised me to use lard for scars after surgery...

    Hacks and shortcuts!

I also wash with warm water while wearing gloves, but I use a sponge reserved only for washing dishes after making soap. And then I use cloth diapers to wipe dry, to differentiate it from a classic dish towel. Then I simply wash these diapers and I don't have so much paper waste.
