Thanks to all and Happy New Year!

I couldn't decide if I should create a new post to say this or add to my old new introduction thread or the Happy New Year thread that was created yesterday however I wanted to make sure that I personally thanked all of you and you would be aware of it. I looked back and first I can't believe...

    Lard

It was meant to be informative. And that's a good idea to make it a "sticky".

    Milk Carton Box Mold

This morning As I was finishing off a 1/2 gallon of Hood Low Cal Chocolate milk I said to myself "That would make a good disposable wax lined box mold for soap". I washed it out, did a little measuring and then got one of my sharper knives and cut it into this... (I hope the pic is good enough...

Sally, It looks like I didn't provide a link to SDSU. I was able to find the info again though... https://extension.sdstate.edu/how-much-meat-can-you-expect-fed-steer

What type or brand of FO for CP Lard soap

I'm about to make another batch of CP Lard soap. I don't mind the plain smell however I thought that I might add a Fragrance to my next batch. I remember that one year I took a couple of Christmas trees to the local botanical garden. They were putting the spruce Christmas trees through a wood...

Tested my 100% Lard soap bars

Update on curing. Sunday 12-29-19 I tested my first batch of Lard CP soap again and I really didn't expect there to be much difference than 4 days ago, but there was. Sunday was the 5 week mark and using the bar it didn't have a greasy after feel like it did 4 days earlier. I have my big boot...

    So I had this idea.....

Maybe when your batch gets to light trace, put a little in a mixing cup with the mica and then paint it in the mold with a 1" brush? Just a thought.

    Considering a OO/Lard CP batch

I guess it does say blend. My eyesight is not very good.

    Considering a OO/Lard CP batch

EVOO 8.5oz bottle. Dollar Tree. $1- plus tax. Hmmm. On the back of the bottle it says 94% pure Soybean oil and 6% Extra Virgin Olive Oil. False advertising... Imagine that!

Tested my 100% Lard soap bars

The mix is a tad superfatted. 25.25 Lard x.1388 LYE=3.5047 I rounded down to 3.5 8 oz well water

Tested my 100% Lard soap bars

On Christmas day (12-25-19) I tested my Lard soap bars. It had been 31 days since I made them and I really didn't expect them to be fully cured. My original plan was to let them cure to the 15th of January. The soap made bubbles and washed my hands well but it left a greasy film. I didn't feel...

Quilter, If I read this document from SDSU correctly it looks like about 150 pounds of tallow.

    Considering a OO/Lard CP batch

Is 100% Lard soap more bubbly than the mix with OO added? I havn't been able to try out the Lard soap yet because it won't be cured until the middle of January. Maybe I could just use around 4 oz of OO? I was looking to expand my soaping beyond the basic Lard soap that I have been learning on...

    Considering a OO/Lard CP batch

As I stand at the range periodically cooking breakfast or rendering Lard I keep noticing a little 8.5 oz bottle of extra virgin Olive Oil. I have considered a simple recipe based on the number of oz in the bottle that cost $1- at the DT. Based on my 25.25 oz recipe of oils the new recipe would...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Earlier today I rendered a little bacon grease and then at sunset I made up a batch of Lard soap (CP). I used an electric mixer. I would do about 3 burst with mixer for about 5 seconds total every 5 minutes. From 20 to 22 minutes the batch went to trace and I got it into all the molds quickly...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Here are my Grease Cake Handle pictures. I was unable to add them to my original post. I hope these are in the correct forum. I thought of this once when I was removing the grease and it slid off of the fork back into the water creating a splash and small mess to clean up. Tool in the...

    I've finally made some soap

I'm a beginner at soap making so at this point I am not trying to make an "awesome" soap. It would be good for all beginners to make a batch of Lard soap. I'm still ignorant to all the various types and methods when it comes to soaping and then you add in the "artsy" aspect. Wow! I've seen some...
