August 2021 SMF Soap Challenge - Ombre Designs

I may make an attempt today - I'd been holding off until I got my 3d printed mould finished, but it's still not done and I'm running out of time! 😲 Thinking I'll try lining it in the normal way and see how it goes...

    Coronavirus

Compliance here is pretty good, at least the places we've been going. Masks are mandatory everywhere inside anyway and I haven't personally heard anyone complaining. Thankfully my workplace is still on remote-only and everyone is pretty productive that way - I think in the long run they're...

    Coronavirus

Just had lunch in a public café! Probably the first time since Covid began! We had to show proof of full immunization at the door and all the things were individually wrapped, but other than that, fairly normal. The more strange thing was being in town at all, that hasn't been an option an...

    Using 2 bases.

I haven't tried the process myself, but my understanding is that you can buy cheap "off the shelf" CPSR packages which tend to come with a lot of restrictions, or you can pay more for a "bespoke" assessment which may or may not get approved depending on exactly what you submit. Maybe the people...

SoapMaking Friend Recipe Calculator INCORRECT Regarding Adapting Recipe Size to Cylinder Dimensions

There's a bunch, sadly... Maybe not as egregious as these, but things like; the batch functionality doesn't seem to work at all as intended, if you copy a recipe with additives and then try to remove them, they'll keep coming back, and at least one other thing which doesn't come to mind right...

    Holiday themed soap

Not as a producer, but if I think about the consumer side, what I would personally be looking for (in case it's useful)... I probably wouldn't buy a full sized Christmas (or other specific day) soap, but I'd be much more likely to want cute guest sized soaps to make things special if I had...

Using activated charcoal and tea tree oil...

Me too - the first tea tree product I used was a lotion that I brought on holiday, so it always reminds me of chilling by the pool 😄

    Procion dyes

I wouldn't either - a lot of fabric dyes will bind to a protein when in a specific pH range. (Although I don't know those ones specifically) Great for dyeing wool, not so much if you want to avoid blue (or whatever) skin from your soap...

    Fingers crossed for you all!

What soapy thing have you done today?

Last night I made my first 3d printed soap mould 😁 I wanted to make sure there were no cracks or rough edges so I used a filament which can be smoothed with acetone for a glossy finish, then I'll make a silicone liner for it. It's very tiny, tall and skinny shaped but only big enough to make 4...

Huge soleseif error I don't know how I can fix.

I'm not long out of bed, and trying to zoom in on the sheets on my phone, so maybe I'm not seeing it either - is it that the oils are 50 25 20 5 instead of 50 30 15 5? Or did you switch the order of the OO and CO?

SoapMaking Friend Recipe Calculator INCORRECT Regarding Adapting Recipe Size to Cylinder Dimensions

It's got a lot of issues really, which is a shame! The design is nice and modern and some of the features (if they worked) would be quite innovative, but it feels like it's been abandoned before being quite finished :(

    Just found Grandmother's soap recipe

Yeah butcher paper here is similar to what Relle describes; it's a very lightweight, slightly creamy/beige coloured paper, along the lines of newsprint paper. You can buy it in long rolls and it's super cheap, it's often used as painting or craft paper for very young kids. I've always used...

    Just found Grandmother's soap recipe

Thanks - yeah I wasn't asking what people use these days! I was wondering what was the closest modern equivalent. I don't think we even have freezer paper here, I've only ever heard of it on this forum...

SoapMaking Friend Recipe Calculator INCORRECT Regarding Adapting Recipe Size to Cylinder Dimensions

There's a separate forum for the calculator; I don't know if the folks who own that ever visit this forum. (Not that they're very responsive on their own forum either tbh)

    Made a decision on e-commerce

I'm not in the business myself, but I presume this is in case you're sued by a customer for one reason or another. Even if it's unfounded, the cost of defending it could put a very small operation out of business, I'd imagine.

    EOCalc.com Blend Reviews

Not personally, but I think I've heard ylang ylang can cause sensitivity? 🤔

    Halloween-ish Pull Throughs.

Gorgeous! Although I think I might have a heart attack if I took a midnight trip to the bathroom and saw that glowing mermaid!

    Shea Butter or Cocoa Butter?

Actually for me it's because the couple of work visits to Cologne have brought me perilously close to the chocolate factory there...
