Help! Fatty Acids in Liquid Soap?

Oh, and if you're resizing LS recipes, be very conscious that they may behave differently while making. The times, consistencies etc may be radically different from described. Especially for HP, where in a small quantity it's easy to lose a high percentage of the water to evaporation.

    Does anyone pre-heat their mould?

I struggled with this problem for quite a while. In the end I had to significantly rework my recipe to use a mix of oils that was liquid (thick but still pourable) at room temperature. Then the additional heat from saponification keeps it properly liquid while I do complicated designs.

    Coffee Soap Scenting

I have an FO from Germany called fresh brewed coffee which I quite like. I think it's originally from a US company. Fresh Brewed Coffee fragrance oil NG - Eulenhofer Seifen Haven't used it in soap though so can't say how it behaves.

August 2021 SMF Soap Challenge - Ombre Designs

Reckon I'll be brave and declare my intent again! I've been wanting to make a soap with a curving wave for a long time now, but the inspiration just wasn't striking right. I was musing the other day that I'd really like to combine the challenge with trying pine tar for the first time, and...

Coloring (and using) Melt and Pour

I'm sure there are plenty of variables that affect how it will come out! Very interested to see the result from yours :)

    Overshooting cleansing range

Have a look on this site for gardeners' or mechanics' soap recipes. A higher cleansing number is not necessarily what's needed to clean off stubborn dirt but there are plenty of recommendations and ideas here which will hopefully be helpful.

The Guy At The End Of The Bar...

This is the new one: Double Sided Soft Brush 13cm | Pet Experts based in Ireland Normally we use a soft nylon one which she loves, but it doesn't do a great job on the undercoat. This new one seems just right; I was a bit uncertain about the metal side because her coat isn't very thick, but I...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Husband spontaneously and of his own free will asked me if he could have some of my soap stash to make up a gift basket for his mother's birthday. Naturally I was happy to oblige!

FA Profiles in Soap Calculators: Who Copies Whom?

Care to share? I don't have the energy to read a long scientific article tonight, but egg production has been shocking lately...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Ooh, you've definitely given me an idea for how I might be able to work it into a design I've been wanting to do for a long time... Must go and do some plotting and scheming :) Hope your head feels better soon!

    Possible outcomes of temperature difference

The only other thing I've heard and not seen mentioned here is that apparently if the oils are very hot, the lye can spontaneously boil when it's added, causing a caustic fountain of general unpleasantness. However, that seems unlikely to happen under normal soaping circumstances...

Grocery Store Soap Challenge Photo Thread

I think "officially" 7 is the age where you can be sure kids won't eat a thing after you've told them not to, but I'd agree that most 5-6 year olds could deal with cupcake soap without much danger.

Coloring (and using) Melt and Pour

Oh, true - for my first attempt at Kryptonite soap I used (homemade) m&p for embeds. The small amount remaining above the surface hollowed out into a shell as the interior liquified and mixed into the rest of the batter...

    Neem turned green?

Jeez, your midwinter is not far off our midsummer. In fact it looks nicer! We've had 13-16 degree days here, overcast and showers... Edit: here's my view this morning!

What soapy thing have you done today?

I noticed a while back that our local agri store sold pine tar and resolved to get some on my next visit... Of course, by the next visit they had changed over to only selling some kind of sprayable version, which I presume is not the right thing for soap 🤔 Then we went to another branch of the...
