    I have a confession .....

You guys are killng me! I wear all the safety gear everytime I make soap. We're talking long sleeves, pants, shoes, gloves and goggles when there is the potential of a lye burn, not to mention hair up in a ponytail so it doesn't fall into my face. And, I wear gloves to measure out my EOs, FOs...

October 2020 Challenge - Tall and Skinny Shimmy

I throw my hands up in defeat! The soap I made yesterday has no shimmy 😂 Nice layers, but no shimmy. I think I could do it if I had a helper whose job would be to turn the mold.

October 2020 Challenge - Tall and Skinny Shimmy

Attempt no. 2 is tucked away. I might have messed up the pouring (again). I'll just have to wait and see when I cut it. Fingers crossed!

October 2020 Challenge - Tall and Skinny Shimmy

I just cut my Tall and Skinny Shimmy (oops addition). I've already learned quite a bit. I used a cereal box that fit into my normal loaf mold and added some cardboard to the gap on the side so it wouldn't bow. I didn't CPOP like I usually do and this batch took forever to get hard enough to...

    Coronavirus

As a family, we decided to apply for temporary residency for my mom. We fully expect her application to be denied and when /if it is, we will appeal. This should give us a few more months of not having to worry about her safety. Denmark has had an increase of cases over the last month resulting...

October 2020 Challenge - Tall and Skinny Shimmy

So my first attempt has been put to bed. I was a bit intimidated by this technique (so much to keep track of! So much clean up!) but had some free time today. I knew what I wanted to do, 2 colors, white as the primary color and a thin purple pencil line in the middle to accentuate the shimmy. My...

October 2020 Challenge - Tall and Skinny Shimmy

    1. earlene - Thank you, szaza. I've been meaning to try this again. Didn't turn out so well the first time. 2. MarnieSoapien - I'm not tall or skinny but I think I can make a shimmy!

Here's my non-entry photo. It was a hard choice since I really liked how they both turned out.

ENTRY thread for SMF September 2020 Challenge - Marble stone inspired soap

Here's my entry. I used Black Gold mica, TD and black iron oxide for my colorants and Winter Warmer FO. My inspiration was Michelangelo Marble. This was a great challenge and I love the results!

Hej Signy! Welcome! I'm always excited to see someone from Scandinavia here :)

SMF September 2020 Challenge - Marble Stone Inspired Soap

I can tell voting is going to be hard again this month! There are some beautiful entries right out of the gate! I made my first attempt (and first batch in 2 months) and my soaping mojo was not working for me. I wanted to give my OMH fragrance some depth and added some French Vanilla. This was...

    Recommended Fragrance Usage

I'm just speculating here... but perhaps one of the reasons soap calcs values are lower could be to accommodate EU soapmakers who have to adhere to very strict standards. In the EU, the maximum usage rate for FOs is 3%.

EO usage rate in dry ingredients

So, 3-5% based off of the total recipe? I'm so used to dealing with liquids my brain can't process anything else.

EO usage rate in dry ingredients

I want to make shower steamers and I'm having a hard time finding a (helpful) guide for usage rates. Since it's a shower steamer and not a bath bomb, I don't need to dilute the EOs in a carrier oil. I've read a lot of recipes that measure in drops or teaspoons. I'd like to use grams but can't...

    Autumn Marble

Those are so pretty! What fragrance did you use? Something autumnal, I'm guessing?

    Freshest Soap in the World

I've looked at this company's website. They are from NZ and seem to be one of the earlier manufactures of solid shampoo and conditioner bars. They have had a fair amount of positive press and are committed to reducing plastic waste. I don't understand what makes a "beauty bar" vs soap. They do...

SMF September 2020 Challenge - Marble Stone Inspired Soap

I made this a few months ago and my hubby said it looks like marble. I had a less than successful batch of salt bars, chopped them up and used the pieces as confetti. I'm really looking forward to trying some of the other techniques.

Faux Savon de Marseilles w/ Calendula infusion

From what I remember the 72% olive oil was reverse engineered by a chemist at some point.
