What soapy thing have you done today?

I made soap after a month of no soaping! My son got married (!) and it was a mad dash to find clothing, etc. after a prolonged COVID lockdown here. So my soaping time was spent in the mall. :( I made salt bars with 50% salt. The FO is Lavender & Spring Apricot (which to me smells more like...

    Simple Design Suggestions?

What about a drop swirl or hanger swirl? Simple but beautiful! Here's one that combined the two swirls and one plain-ish drop swirl.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Thanks so much for such a detailed reply! I haven't ordered any of the FOs you mentioned (except for Burst of Energy, which was fine in my soap), so slight sigh of relief. But I'll be on the lookout with the others.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I would encourage you to experiment! As long as you use a soap calculator, you'll be fine. In fact, one of the joys of soapmaking for me is developing and tweaking my own recipes.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Uh oh! My new FOs from Micas & More are on their way! Are there specific scents that have caused DOS? Have others found that too? I've used a few FOs from them and have been very happy so far (except for their pear FO, which accelerates and, according to my kids, smells like Play-Doh.)

Can anyone tell me what this is?

I had a loaf "sweat" recently. I saw it the morning after I made the soap and wanted to find out what it was (oil? EO?) so I touched it. Lye water! I found out really quickly because it burnt my finger tip. Be careful if you decide to taste it!!

    Soy Wax Use in Soap

I use soy wax at 20 or 25%. I put my soap on a heating pad for a few hours, because I found that if I didn't, I had stearic spots.

    Zany's no slime castile

My experience has been that citric acid and faux seawater (salt + baking soda) in the same recipe makes the soap soft and slimy. Even after a considerable cure. If you go ahead and do it, I'd love to hear about your results.

    Another first of 2021

I'm sure your brother-in-law will love it! It was so thoughtful of you to formulate a soap for his skin type! And how the soap FEELS is really the most important thing, IMHO. And while the lines are not perfect, I'm sure he and your sister will think of their favorite team every time they use it.

    Analyzing soap performance

[/USER] How do you dissolve the sugar? In the vinegar? I recently used white vinegar in a high OO soap with lovely results, but I didn't add sugar. I use sugar in my other recipes but dissolve in distilled water.

I love your tiger swirls! The one on the left is fantastic!!

How popular are your salt soaps?

I know I'm outing myself as never having been to a spa, but I've been wondering about this for a while: Why are they called spa bars? Is this the kind of soap spas offer? Does it have to do with salt treatments at spas?

What a lovely introduction! Nice to meet you!

    What are you picky about?

Stearic spots drive me to distraction!!! I finally figured out how to avoid them in my soy wax soap - and then I added shea butter to the mix and have to figure out temps and time on the heating pad all over again!

What kind of vinegar do you use?

Thanks for your replies!!! I'm going to try the white vinegar.

What kind of vinegar do you use?

I've been thinking about revisiting vinegar in my CP soaps. I've only used apple cider vinegar but was wondering what others use. White vinegar (ingredients: acetic acid and water) is much cheaper where I live. Is it just as good for soap making? My main reasons for using vinegar are hardening...
