What soapy thing have you done today?

I love green too! It's also my most useful color. I have three greens: an evergreen, fruit green and hunter green. I like to match scents with color, and green "matches" spearmint, peppermint, eucalyptus, rosemary, some citrus scents, fir needle, cedar, pear, apple, cucumber . . . the list is long.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I'm continuing my experiments with soy wax. I went down to 10% soy wax because I found 20% drying (has anyone else??) and scented with lemon eucalyptus (also called Eucalyptus Citriodora) and rosemary EOs. It's quite pungent at the moment, but I'm hoping it mellows. I soaped HOT and still have...

What soapy thing have you done today?

If you leave dishes for a day or so, the leftover batter on them becomes soap. Then you can wash it off pretty easily. I leave my soap utensils alone for about 3 days, and the batter (soap, by then) comes right off.

Soy wax soap . . . and your skin

I made my first batch of soy wax soap five weeks ago. I just tried it in the shower and while I really like the hardness of the bar, it made my skin a bit dry. Here's the recipe: 28% Olive 27% Sunflower HO 20% Soy wax 12% Coconut 8% Grapeseed 5% Castor oil 4% superfat // 38% lye...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Hanger swirl soap using cocoa and rose clay to color the batter. And a gear tie as a hanger. I did up & down and back & forth motions with the gear tie. I wish the pink was a little more vivid, but I'm happy with how it came out.

    Single EO scent (fading) test

Thank you!! This is SO helpful and interesting! I purchased Ho Wood a while ago and couldn't find the usage rate, so thanks for that as well. I'm looking forward to your updates.

    Soap saver or dish recommendations

https://www.kitchenstuffplus.com/umbra-sling-silicone-flexible-sink-caddy-red I use a soap caddy like this that I hang on my shower pole. I use a hand-held shower head, so the soap stays high and dry.

    More Lather

Hi @Noreen Moore , If you use the Soapmaking Friend calculator, it will calculate the amount of lye you need to add due to adding citric acid to your recipe. You don't have to do the math! Citric acid is listed under Custom Additives.

    Beer Soap?

When I started making beer soap, I thought I needed a fragrance that "matched" the beer. Now I just use any fragrance because I'm doing it for the lather. I've made lavender apricot FO beer soap, lime beer soap, etc.

So excited about my Clyde swirl

Beautiful! I'd never heard of Clyde from Vibrant before this and went to have a look. There're a million videos! Would you mind sharing which video it was?

    Contemplating soy wax

Thanks, I think you're right about the laser thermometer. Especially if I am going to continue with soy wax. That said, the batter was fluid and warm when I poured into the mold. I scraped the bottom-of-the-jug batter into an individual mold not in the pictures. It seems to me that the top of a...

Oh Lordy What have I made?

I do the same as @KiwiMoose. I bought a liter of pure coconut cream, poured it into ice cube trays and froze it so that it would keep for longer. Before use, I defrost in the microwave and add to my oils. I find that even a little bit adds to the feel of the lather.

    Some new soap pics

Such beautiful soaps!! I love the soft pink swirl! And I don't always like stamped soap, but I really like yours. You positioned the stamps perfectly so that they add to the look instead of interfering with the design. Nice! Is it a custom-made stamp?

    Contemplating soy wax

Here's my first soy wax soap! My plan was to keep it simple – no colorants, an FO I know and trust – because I wasn't sure how fast the batter would trace. In hindsight, I would have had time to bring batter to emulsion, divide, color and swirl. I think the yellowish color of the soap comes from...

    GW 415 - Soy Wax

I finally bought my soy wax today (I'm so excited!) and I have a question about adding it as a custom oil on Soapmaking Friend. The soy wax is not GW415 but is called "soybean oil hydrogenated Ph. Eur. 9.0". It's produced in Germany by a company called gustavheess. The fatty acid composition is...

    Contemplating soy wax

Thank you all for such valuable information! The local website, which sells soap, cosmetic and candle supplies, just lists it as "soy wax". But now I'm armed to ask the right questions about the product! Thanks again!
