What type of Bath Bomb molds do you use?

AliOop, thanks for that. I've ordered a 50gm one with 8 different disks so I can have a play. Nice to know the 75g is more equivalent to commercially sold bath bombs. I'm sure there will be a bit of cursing going on when I start to try and pack bath bomb mix into it! I've purchased from...

What type of Bath Bomb molds do you use?

violets2217, interesting that you are only using the 50gm for presents. I presume they get more ;) They certainly look easier than using the other bath bomb molds.

What type of Bath Bomb molds do you use?

I like the looks of these presses more and more. I do see they have different sizes which relates to gms as well as round or square molds. What sizes do people use? I also notice some have discs while others have silicone molds?

What type of Bath Bomb molds do you use?

I'll Think you have converted me, didn't take much. I can see why you like it, I like my flower soap molds. Will probably have to order overseas as I doubt they're stocked in New Zealand. What brand was yours?

What type of Bath Bomb molds do you use?

There are heaps of options when it comes to molds. What type do you use and why? I love silicone molds for soap making but some of them would be too flexible. I have a couple of stainless steel ones and I've found them ok, they seem a bit difficult to unmold. I looked at the plastic ones but...

    I got a lye burn

I feel your pain KiwiMoose. I've been known to stand under the A/C to cool down those flashes. Maybe we should leave soaping to colder days ;)

    Lotion bar recipe question

Thanks for that. I suppose life would be boring if we liked all the same things 😉

    Lotion bar recipe question

Do you find this proportion feels sticky on the skin? I trialed this and it felt too sticky for me but others didn’t even notice? I’m now going to reduce beeswax to 20%

    Dendritic salt/Anticaking agents

I’m only 1g essential oils and 1 g polysorbate20 to 490g of Epsom salts, sea salt and baking powder. Sealing them in ziplock bags 🤔

    The heat and hold method?

I’m finding this thread fascinating. I’ve been making my own moisturiser for 10 years and have only bought both phases up to 70oC and then mixed them to emulsify. I don’t use water, but rose hydrosol. amd, what a great experiment. In the early days I used citrus seed extract. I am now more...

    Solid Lotion vs Solid Perfume

Perfume balms generally have 10-30% essential oil, (not sure on dosage for artificial fragrances). The idea behind a balm is that it acts as a slow release product, the waxes will slow down the evaporation rate of the essential oils as well as protecting the skin from irritation due to higher...

    Dendritic salt/Anticaking agents

Hi, Living in New Zealand, there seems to be only one outlet for dendritic salt and it's very expensive. After doing a bit of research, an article mentioned that anticaking agents were added to the dendritic salt. Is pure dendritic salt non clumping or the additives in the salt? Is there...

How do you melt your oils?

Just be aware that Geranium may overpower your blend. I would add that oil laser, easier to add more rather than tone down 😉 But then if you’re the fragrance guy, you probably know that 😁

Can Crude Rice bran oil be used in cold process soaps??

Thanks. As Babyshoes mentioned, hopefully the smell will disappear and mayb titanium dioxide will help with the colour. I used dripping in one of my recipes, smelt very “meaty” so added geranium and palmarosa to hide the smell. I used a lot of rice bran oil, one of the cheaper oils in New...

    Potato soap update

I just suddenly clicked, tried rice flour in soap as an exfoliant, great lathering, thought it was the recipe rather than the rice starch (face palm). Potato water easy enough to try though

SMF February 2021 Challenge - Circling Taiwan Swirl

I love your idea of reject batches. Nothing worse than waiting to cut into the mold and finding the bloody colours haven’t migrated 🙄

    role of extract?

It all depends on how the “extract” is derived. You can get CO2 “extract” oils, they’re often used for flavouring, who ever is selling the extracts should be able to explain their usage. I’m a big fan of German chamomile CO2 extract, it actually has a greater anti-inflammatory action than the...

chart of components of essential oils?

In some respects you are probably better googling the chemical constituents and asking for the essential oils that have those main components as each oil can have hundreds of differing constituents. Unfortunately a lot of the “layman” books don’t really get into specifics. I looked up “Advanced...

Can Crude Rice bran oil be used in cold process soaps??

I’m surprised you can get crude bro. As far as I’m aware all Rbo’s are solvent extracted. How does the crude differ from the refined? My spell check doesn’t like my rice bran oil abbreviation ;)
