    Handmade Soap and Health Claims

As soapmakers, we are sometimes asked by customers to recommend soaps that are beneficial for certain skin conditions. We, of course, aren't supposed to promise medical benefits from our soap, else we would have to categorize them as a drug. However, because of these requests, we may sometimes...

    Citric Acid

So there is no criteria for whether adding CA to lye water or water that goes in the oils?

Dual lye, citric acid and sugar

Half the sources say to add the citric acid to the lye water before the lye. The other half the sources say to mix the citric acid in water and add that solution to the oils. I would love to see the rationale for each.

    Citric Acid

Hi! You recommend adding the CA to the water, then add lye. But DeeAnna recommends adding the CA to twice as much water and adding that to the oils. What are the pros and cons of each?

how to calculate amount of eo to use?

I looked up Rosemary EO and the site said that Rosemary is not recommended for candles. Other sites give usage recommendations and sell candles scented with Rosemary EO. I wonder why TheSage says no?

how to calculate amount of eo to use?

That calculator only has FOs, not EOs, right?

how to calculate amount of eo to use?

The candle I made with bay oil smelled like some kind of motor fuel while burning, so I didn't pursue it. Even the scent O.O.B. is an acquired taste, but my friend loves it. I made rosemary candles for him instead.

    Honey Avocado Soap

So, instead of 2:1, water to lye, you did 1:1 water to lye and added avocado directly to the lye water to replace the other half? Or did you add the avocado puree later?

    Lye pockets versus Fragrance pockets

I've never had fragrance pockets before. I just made a batch and added the fragrance oil to the oils before the lye water (so I wouldn't forget). Stick blended the hell out of it till emulsified (not trace) and divided it into cups of color for a pot swirl. After pouring it into the mold, I...
