Shaving Soap - Want to Make It?

I called one "Cherry Bomb" but it was not a straight cherry. Unless you find I said something else and then that's what I did. I hate getting old. :)

Shaving Soap - Want to Make It?

That was Soapalooza Almond Cherry I think. Was definitely them and was definitely cherry/almond. It was nice because it tempered both scents and gave them a little something extra. If I still had some I might even be tempted to mix that with almond to temper the cherry just a little more.

My first shaving soap is a success!

The original recipe can be drying for some folks. It's incredibly sensitive to the superfat with just SA and CO. Too much kills lather, too little and you feel like you are stretching your skin like a trampoline. I love the lanolin in mine and I use a touch of shea as well - preferentially...

Shaving Soap - Want to Make It?

Thanks for sharing IL. It's a popular scent for sure. I'd like to try it but I can scent pounds and pounds of my soap for that price. :)

Shaving Soap - Want to Make It?

I have not, I've actually never tried AoS. I just won't spend that kind of money for soap. :) I have been thinking of having SiM duped. Not done it yet. It's not available that I know of.

Shaving Soap - Want to Make It?

IL sent me a pile of sniffs, here's what I took away: • *Stud, Nature's Garden - Good, smells like Polo with some fruit? • *The Perfect Man, Nature's Garden - Similar to Stud, heavier, maybe vanilla. Some pineapple maybe? Would be a nice men's bar soap. • Salty Sailor, Daystar -...

Shaving Soap - Want to Make It?

It is, but the server is a dog. I'm in the middle of moving a few sites that actually make me money. This one will go soon. I liked quite a few of the ones IL sent. I'll post my notes when I sit still for a while.

Shaving Soap - Want to Make It?

Thanks for the kind words. It's one of those things a new guy had to write down, hoping to help others who may be new to this variety of soap. So this morning I reached for my RazoRock Lime shave soap. I always like RazoRock and expected a good shave. Something didn't like my face this...

I seem to be having some site issues (thank you for letting me know). I'm on the phone with them right now.

Shaving Soap - Want to Make It?

Thank you IL! That means a lot to come from an experienced soaper. I have all of what .. a year and a half? under my belt so that makes me a newbie. I'd never have been as successful without you and the rest here who are so free with advice and findings. What IL failed to mention is she...

Less soap scum with homemade/natural soaps?

    Nah, it's not the clay.

Less soap scum with homemade/natural soaps?

I end up cleaning a lot of antique razors and soap scum on those is ridiculous. Scrubbing Bubbles eats it like candy (ew!). So, that's what I use in my sink and shower now. That being said I had an occasion to try IL's shaving soap for the last few days and there was no residue ... if she...

    80% Lard Soaps..OK, I Get it Now.

That's the stuff I was looking for! I knew Lee Valley had to have them. My Google-fu was broken over the weekend. I buy enough from them these days that sneaking a couple in will be no problemo. :-P

    80% Lard Soaps..OK, I Get it Now.

Molding/Moulding planes are a not completely uncommon tool in the US as well. I would be careful to treat any metal surfaces after use to avoid corrosion, but I'll bet an industrious person could find some really nice ones. The reason these are so named - look at the molding around doors, base...

My first shaving soap is a success!

It can be derived from Peppermint among others - although I think most of the commercial crops now come from India from the Mentha arvensis. No, no problem at all if you like the peppermint. :) I made a peppermint/vanilla soap that was pretty nice. Ended up adding menthol to it though as it...

My first shaving soap is a success!

Menthol is not peppermint - although peppermint can have some of the same properties. You can pick up a pound of menthol crystals on eBay for next to nothing.
