    New Year Castile

Understood. Nobody in this house associates "Castille" with "lather." They reach for the coconut salt bar if they want that. :)

My first shaving soap is a success!

Just to have a little fun ... here's a great thread on Badger and Blade (shaving forum) where someone did a review f 20 bay rums: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/123922-Massive-Bay-Rum-review-20-sampled

    New Year Castile

I did a 5% discount in September of 2014. The bars are wonderful right now. Yes they are creamy vs bubbly, but my wife is in love with them. If you already know you like 3% then use 3% ... I'm sure it will be fine.

    New Year Castile

Next weekend I'll be making a couple batches. A girl at work loved the castille I brought her (touch and go bringing someone a bar of soap ... ) so she wants to make some. I'll have a batch in the oven from the night before so I can say "and in 24 hours .... ".

My first shaving soap is a success!

Um ... weird. Sec. Fixed ... The links on that page were to edit the pages for some strange reason. Thanks for letting me know.

    USDA certified organic soap?

Is a product for dogs "personal care" I wonder? The Dr Bronner stuff does not bear the seal that I see but does say "made with certified organic ingredients" which is allowable at => 70% of these ingredients.

    USDA certified organic soap?

I don't find that as a requirement ... source? Also, I believe since this is not a restricted ingredient it does not count as non-organic.

    USDA certified organic soap?

I had nothing to do this morning so I found a few applicable regulations: That implies labeling as organic is feasible for a smaller operation, and they will likely never get caught. Dr. Bronner probably does not fall under this with gross sales. As I type this I wonder if he really was a...

My first shaving soap is a success!

I do as Craig does. Have a look here for how I do it. The article is written for a person new to making soap so a lot may be remedial, but it does talk about when (and why) I add shea and lanolin. http://www.silverfoxcrafts.com/shaving-soap/ Part one ('The "Super" Fat' section) describes...

    Thingies

Hey thanks KristaY. That's where I purchased them last time and I forgot so that helps. :)

    Thingies

That got me close enough, here's what I was looking for: http://www.brambleberry.com/Small-Cubes-Mold-Package-Plastic-P5915.aspx?ItemId=35465250&Options=9268

Thank you! Man I hate when that happens. You can almost hear the fuse pop.

    Thingies

I am having a severe brain fart. You know those little plastic ice-cube tray thingies that Scentsy waxes come in? What are those called and/or who sells them?

    Formulator's Alcohol

In the UK apparently that's a possibility - not in the US Amazon site.

    Formulator's Alcohol

Pretty sure you can buy it in the Supermarket here. I've definitely been in states where one cannot (especially the 190 proof). I don;t know why I want to mess with the formulator's or perfumer's alcohol but I thought I might to say I had. It's for my own use so I could use Everclear easily.

    Formulator's Alcohol

Awesome, thank you both. it can't be much more flammable than Everclear can it? :)

    Formulator's Alcohol

Not sure if this is a B&B thing so please move if not. Where can one get formulator's alcohol? I've done some searches and most end up at a defunct website.

First attempts at HP - Silver Fox Soap

Yoop, from like that other forum owned by the same dude? If so its only fair. Some of your recipes there caused me to get back into it. :)

First attempts at HP - Silver Fox Soap

You flatter me, I'm just a duffer. I owe a lot to the folks here and only wanted to share back. If I had to be an actor though, Harrison Ford would be on my list. :) I seriously would not sweat the timing too much. If you need a little more workability then maybe switch to a 30% lye...

First attempts at HP - Silver Fox Soap

Hi KatyP, thanks for letting us know of your success! It sounds as if everything went well for you. I'm so glad you were able to achieve success, and most of all that you are pleased with what you've done. As far as your questions: Lard and Tallow are a fair replacement Certainly there's...
