What soapy thing have you done today?

Steamed one of my soaps. It’s shiny.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Yeah, that’s why I got two molds when I started soaping. I’m very impatient.

I did the clamshell swirl for that one. Ginger ale is fabulous! It smells so dang bubbly. It’s holding up so far but it’s only been a week. I think I like champagne more as there’s a boozy and a berry note in it. It could also be used for ginger ale. They are both wonderful.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Been busy making soaps. There’s soda ash on them, but I’m not gonna worry about it. Scents used BB champagne and ginger ale, indigo fragrance celebration and Calacazz and JS Rosemary lemon. I am in love with ginger ale and champagne. I need this in everything! Celebration and calacazz are lush...

I’ve come to the conclusion that fragrance oils that slow trace have a higher likelihood to separate when poured at a light trace. This occurs even when the batter sits for over an hour before pouring. I’ve been wondering if it was truly false trace causing separation or the fragrance oil. Yup...

Misbehaving FOs in different types of recipes

I stopped doing it years ago and have been much happier since.

Misbehaving FOs in different types of recipes

Idk what my temperature difference is. I’ve never found it to interfere with soaping when my lye is at 70F and my oils are around 115F.

Misbehaving FOs in different types of recipes

I like my oils to be around 100-115F before mixing my lye. I no longer use any ice and generally make lye a day or two ahead. I master batch my lye. I prefer my batter to be past light trace before pouring, but sometimes I’m impatient. If I have used a FO in the past and I know it can slow trace...

Misbehaving FOs in different types of recipes

I made a recipe that is strictly for doing swirls. It has a lot of slow moving oils and it does seem to help. One thing I’ve discovered recently is that if I see reviews saying it does accelerate and I use my regular recipe but I don’t stick blend the fragrance oil can behave better.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Just cut my kaleidoscope soap. I used my curl 2 from Love Your Suds. Fragrance is Citrus Explosion by JS. I used my color cards to help me with the colors. I don’t like the color scheme at all though. I poured a little too thin at first and then waited. I was not very hopeful this would come...

Good job! I’m glad you tried the recipe.

I’m gonna try the oasis swirl soon. The Taiwan swirl was fun to do. I’m a little intimidated by the oasis swirl, but I want to try it.

What soapy thing have you done today?

As I was cutting my soaps I had a difficult time deciding which way to cut them as they also looked like an oasis swirl depending on the cut. However, I decided I wanted to show off my Taiwan swirl technique that I intended.

    First pull through soap

I will try this method next time! I used plastic bags last time and then had to cut them open to scrape all the soap batter out. My rod was on the side though. I was wondering what I could do for the center rods.

Those look nicer than my first two. Good job!

What soapy thing have you done today?

Mom passes out my soap to her friends so now I have quite a few people who want my soap. That’s a relief though. It means I can keep making it and giving it away. I have quite a lot of scents to soap over the coming months.

    Lye mixing containers

I do use Pyrex glass containers to hold my lye before mixing with water and I do pour my soap batter in Pyrex glass. I check for cracks before and after each use. I store my lye solution in Rubbermaid pitchers and I mix my soap and lye together in a stainless steel pot. Molten sodium hydroxide...

Mandarin mimosa by Just Scents. I used my color cards to help me with color matching. Then I realized they were Mardi Gras colors. Added silver and gold mica to the top. This time I will make sure to cut the bars correctly. I used neon colors as always.

Is this shea butter still good?

Honestly, I wouldn’t use it just due to the age.
