New to the craft, but need to jump in with 2 feet running!

Pure beeswax candles are not easy. I consider using beeswax to be more challenging than vegetable oils or paraffin. They need to cool slowly so they won’t crack and you need to find the right wick for them. Any candle making requires trial and error to get it just right. Beeswax also doesn’t...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Inflation prices of oils are crazy these days. I think it’s a good idea to have some back up oils that are good substitutes.

spring '24 goats milk lemon soap

If you have never made cold process soap I would not use milk for your first recipe until you have made a few batches of soap. Milk can be tricky as it can scorch if it gets too hot. Do you know how to mix lye and milk? I’m just worried you’re putting the cart before the horse and may not be...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Yup, that’s the way to find the perfect recipe for yourself. Not everyone gets the recipe right on the first try. You could. I’ve seen a few people doing that due to the price of olive oil. Just run it through a soap calculator.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Glad you enjoyed going there. I am not a fan of their soaps. They were drying my skin out and made me itchy.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I have never made a soap without color or fragrance. I applaud you for being the smart and patient one. You will truly learn a lot by taking your time.

What soapy thing have you done today?

My family says the same thing. Their mouth waters when they smell something and then they become sad when it’s just soap.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Gave a bunch of soaps away at my job today. Very happy about that. The glow in the dark went quickly.

    A good bar??? 165 INS

It looks okay, but why such weird percentages? Also, I think you put the amount of soap you want to make wrong. It’s 438.4lbs 🙃

Love your soaps. I’ve never had that happen to my silicone molds before. So odd.

    My fragrance reviews

All I have used is FO or FO/EO blue ds That is a big issue with a lot of reviews. I always hear how great they smell, but never how they performed or the scent retention after cure. I like to be prepared for any possible difficulties during soaping. Since I’ve been soaping I’ve kept a scent...

    My fragrance reviews

I figured it’s about dang time that I post reviews of all the fragrances that I have used. I like a strong scent and prefer citrus, herbal, beach, ocean, tart fruit, powdery florals and rose. I am not a fan of food, heavy florals, sweet, or vanilla scents. I’ll continue to update as I use new...

    Lye in MP purpose?

Lush makes their own melt and pour base from soap flakes. The soap flakes are made with coconut oil, rapeseed oil and lye. Then they mix the other ingredients to make it melt and pour. the owners showed off how they make their soaps when they stopped using palm oil.

    Curing Soap

The longest I’ve kept a soap is 3.5 years. It felt great.

What soapy thing have you done today?

It’s absolutely amazing to see how they make it. I think they are becoming more popular due to videos about the companies. I might buy their soap and see if I like it, but I’m just not a big fan of olive oil in soap. Never tried making lye myself.

100% Coconut oil soap takes a long time to thicken.

Idk, maybe. Soap do what soap do.

Can anyone explain the "Superfat % should be 1/2 of the Cleansing number" rule?

Just because you never have a problem doesn’t mean that others won’t. I have never had a problem with my plumbing at 8% super fat but I know it can happen. I do add a chelator to help reduce the amount of soap scum and hopefully prevent clogged pipes for others. People are set in their ways...

How long before testing a bar?

You can test it a few days after it’s made and continue to test to see if it becomes more mild and lathers more. You really won’t know how the final product is until cured. I actually prefer to cure my soaps for 3 months because I just love longer cured soaps. Also keep a soap for a year and...

    Aluminium for melting oils

I don’t think anything will happen in that case, but I am not exactly sure. aluminium makes me nervous when it comes to soap making.
